They are "pieces of chit"! The Texas justice system is way to lenient on convicted drunk drivers. They need to pay through the nose and all driving privileges revoked for a long duration (years). There is no excuse for drunk driving today.

If we're talking in absolutes then the answer is drunk.

In Texas we could drink and drive and it was legal, drinking age was like 19 years old.

I never heard of knew of anyone who got into deadly wrecks.

I remember we would go cruising like Forrest Lane in Dallas, and go to Arlington and cruise Cooper street, the Arlington cops would try to give you a ticket for open container but all you had to do was fight the ticket and when it went to Fort Worth it was dropped.

They raised the drinking age to 21 and everyone who was above 19 got grandfathered so we could still drink.

If you were under age 19 and police caught you with beer they would just make you pour it out, they were pretty cool about it.

I guess people are not responsible enough now of days to have a cold one on the way home from work

A close friend of mine growing up supposedly had the FT Worth DUI record sometimes in the 80/90’s. He was a Mexican Indian and had a bad habit of always wanting to fight when he got drunk. I stopped associating with him when I went into the USAF. Read that he was knifed to death outside a strip club. I guess justice was finally served.

A 19 year old killed 5 people this morning on I-35W near Seminary Dr in Fort Worth...he was drunk.

Drunk drivers are always 'sorry' after the fact, but never responsible enough to turn over the keys and get someone sober to drive them home before the sorrow begins. Not a fan.

"They raised the drinking age to 21 and everyone who was above 19 got grandfathered so we could still drink."

I don't recall anybody being grandfathered.

It went to 18 in 1973 (the year I turned 18), to 19 about 5 years later, and back to 21 5 years after that.

Jimbo1 is right, there was never any “grandfathering”

There was a guy at our plant that rode to and from work with another person every day. He never drove, just rode and paid for gas. He was 20 miles from home and would drink 7-8 beers on the way home. After a 3 day weekend he would show up on Monday with his arms all bruised up from falling down. Great guy with a terrible problem.

Nope. I turned 19 at the end of July in '86. September 1st of that year is when drinking age went to 21. I thought I was good since I was 19 before law went into affect. Police officer said otherwise.
