Is H4895 being discontinued? Can't find it anywhere. I did find IMR 4895 as a replacement, but my data shows about an average of 2 grains less on the IMR 4895. It's weird, if I remember correctly when I started reloading for my Mauser, IMR was going by the wayside and the Hodgdon brand was taking over, now they are going back to IMR brand. I know they are made by the same company just thought it was weird. I guess I have to do more ladder tests to tune my loads.

I have not seen it available for several years.
Look at the powder burn rate chart, and select an available powder, close to H-4895 burn rate.

I know they are made by the same company I don't think Hodgdon makes any powder. IMR powders are made in Canada and most of the Hodgdon labeled powders are made in Australia (Extreme series line) or St. Marks in FL (most pistol and ball powders). Hodgdon gets in bulk powder and relabels it and sells it. Your H4895 and IMR 4895 were made in 2 different countries and continents.

I’ve been hunting for some H4895 for some time. I use it in some reduced loads, picks up some AA5744 not to long ago and it has filled the gap.

5744 and H4895 are powders I like to have around all the time as they are jacks of many trades, might not be the "best" in many applications but can be used in many cartridges for many things. Versatile describes them though in many of their uses they may not yield the fastest or most accurate but can often reduce good enough or great reduced loads.
I have a few pounds of each but if I only had a few powders to select from out of a stash those would be in it because of so many uses.

I'm seeing a lot of comments that in 308W leverE is good. Seems to do better than either 4895. Originally reports were it stunk in 308, I'll try some.

H4895 is the new shortage powder due to the move by the PRS shooting community as well as some other competitive shooting sports going to the smaller 6mm BR variants mainly Dashers and BRA’s. Now H4350 is everywhere and H4895/ Varget are harder to find. H 4895 may slowly start to come back as now the shift is to 25 caliber so get ready for that resurgent to shift powder demand.

When I began loading four or so years ago, H4895 was my sought powder of choice. It was nowhere to be found over for years. I chose IMR4895 instead and have been pleased. Works amazing for us with .35 Rem and 30.06 loads. Have also tried behind 22-250. Not as fast as H4895 per the specs, but the deer and hogs we've taken at distance didn't notice. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/08/full-10221-428348-screenshot_20240816_042019_gallery.jpg)

I use H4895 in my 204 ruger. And loaded my wife a 100 rds of 30/30 with it. I seen a 8 keg sale the other day. And a few 1 pd cans sale to. If I ever run out of H4895. I will move to RL10.

My memory stinks so I went and checked my stash. Found a can of H4895 I bought in July 2017 and opened for use in November 2017. Looked through my notes and found where I used it to load some 77 grain Nosler bullets for 5.56X45mm. I have never had any IMR-4895 as far as I know. I use 3031 for .30-30WIN so I am not so sure I even need H4895 but I'll use it some day. I have used the a fore mentioned 5744 for 7.62X39mm.
Pass the gravy.

Did a powder inventory this morning, Got extra 2 pounds of IMR4895 that I'll never use. Probably not use the 4227 either. Oh well, loads pretty much set so just find what I need now.

I was in Academy in San Antonio over the weekend and they had a one 1 lb. can of H4895. I don't load that particular powder so I didn't think much about it until I saw this post.
