Don't jump through the monitor and kill me -- get her something bigger. An SUV is arguably safer, some get the same gas mileage as cars these days, and at 24 this car will likely server her well into her being a mom (if that is a desire for her)

You're a good dad. I've only had one new car that was 20 years ago. I'm a huge Honda fan. We have two Accords. In fact, piling in the '06 in the early morning that I bought new...2.4cyl I4 engine with 205k which is my son's car that he's taking to college in Georgia. 12hr drive. Have a ton of faith in that deivetrain. Do some research on the new Honda 1.5L before you buy. They have reported crank/rod bearing issues. if I were buying it would be a 4-cylinder Camry. Much longer historical engine design...proven or a Camry Hybrid.

Honda has kind of fallen back in quality in recent years. Not bad, but just middle of the pack behind chevy and others. Still ahead of Kia and Hyndai south korean makers.

Personally I'd look really hard at a Rav4. They drive great, get awesome mpg, last forever, and cost about the same as what you're looking at.

Get the gas model, not the hybrid.

I got my daughter a Rav4 and she has totally abused it. It just will not die. Upsetting to say the least, but it does speak to the reliability of the Rav4. Do you stiil have to change out the timing belt on Hondas? Seems lke it was a pretty expensive maintenance item.

I had a Honda accord about 16 years ago and it was a fantastic car. Doors shut like a refrigerator… everything nice and tight. Drove great and got good gas mileage. I really liked it a lot

Hondas are reliable. I bought both my daughter’s Mazda SUVs. No complaints other than ac went out in one.

We have a 2010 Acura TL. 140k. Tires, brakes, battery, routine timing belt service, and at some point a few years back an alternator. That’s it!! Bullet proof.

You’re a good Dad for this. Surprises are cool, but you may have more fun taking her with and letting her support the decision. And let her drive it.

Good luck.

Toyota or Honda

I would go either Accord or Camry

Or CRV or Rav4

Can't go wrong any choice which ever fits your budget and what style she likes.

I don't like the look of new CRV, it's kinda plain looking compared to the old body style.

Honda and Toyota are both solid choices. I am looking forward to the car buying post. Play by play.

I bought my daughter a 2018 (it was 2 years old w 18k miles) Honda civic when she went to college and after 1year it had the rack and pinion problem (scary for my daughter), so cost me another $4k to fix that since it was out of warranty, I was NOT happy since it’s a known problem. I have a 2019 Honda accord, and I like it, but it has a squealing sound while in reverse if it’s the least bit damp out…my next daughter will be getting a Toyota when she goes to college. Just my .02!
