With the new auto cell detecting cameras. What happens if you set up your camera at home with AT&T. Then take out to the lease and Verizon is the better signal. Do the camera company charge you for a new activation for Verizon

That would be different per camera manufacturer.

Moultrie has an auto detect feature, on Tactacams you have to select it prior.

Probably worth an email.

There are a few brands now that automatically use or jump to the best signal. No SIM card choice upon purchase.
Some choose signal and don’t require SD cards

I have Stealth Cam and it's app allows you to set the signal of choice.

I just bought the Moultrie Edge. It detects strongest carrier in area and send pic to the phone. I’ll put it out in a few weeks. Reviews are mixed on it. I’ll see how it goes

I don't know if Moultrie's QC has improved in the last 6 years, but they had the worst performing cell cams on our lease. Everyone on the lease ditched them for others and never looked back.

I have used different iterations of Moultrie Cellular cams since 2018. I have not purchased or employed cellular game cams from other makers, so.............

I have ten of the Moultrie Cellular Game Cams set out. Five at my brother's place in Engle Texas and five at my lease near Reagan Wells Texas. The first seven were the Edge, the last three are the Edge Pro. I have the unlimited plan on all.

IIRC this will be the third season I have used the original camera. One of the original two got dropped and the cover got broke off. Then it got knocked off the tee post and stomped by a bull.

This will be the second season for at least four , and the Edge Pros I put up around March or April of this year.

To date I've had no problems with any of the cameras malfunctioning nor failing to take pix.

I've had only one service outage I can remember.

The Edge Pro are super easy to set up. Read the Quick set up guide, then scan the QR code and it’s off to the races.

There are any number of options as to frequency of uploading, time between reset etc.

Battery life is good, IMHO. Depending on frequency of upload and reset time you may get 6 months on a set. Biggest negative in that regard is that it takes 16 AA batteries.

I have not invested in solar chargers for mine, due to the investment required for 10 cams.I’m sure it is more expensive, but I buy batteries on Amazon in 100 pack.

If you are looking for DSLR quality images, this is not the camera for you. I have other game cams that take much higher quality photos. However, the image quality is sufficient to satrisfy me, YMMV. it is addicting to be able to watch what is coming to your feeders/pens or game trails in almost real time if you set the reset time for 1 minute and upload time at immediate. This will drain the batteries quicker, but either on your smart phone or computer you can go to the app and change any variable in less than a minute.

They may advertise no false images, but I do not find that to be the case. Consequently, at certain locations I tend to decrease the frequency of uploads and reset times during daylight hours.

Would I buy again?? Absolutely, Ive already done so nine times.

As always, YMMV.

Not necessarily in chronological order, but recent.......

Good stuff GW, and thanks for sharing. I just bought a 2 pack from Cabelas and plan to set them out up at our whitetail place in the TX panhandle. One question.....if I set them up here, then take them up to our lease and put them out, will it automatically acquire the best signal up there or should I wait until I get up there to do setup? Thanks....great info and pics.

JG,

I have done it both ways, and been successful.

However my preference is to get the camera ready to go, turned on then set up and log on where one has has access to wi-fi and the 'net. I then turn the camera off, head to my destination and go to where I will set up the camera. I make sure I get signal before I mount the camera on a t-post or tree. I extend the antenna and press and hold the connect button. It may take a minute or so for the camera to connect. The "connecting' light will blink and once it is connected the green light will be lit for a while. You will have downloaded the Moultrie App to register and open up an account. Open up the app. If signal is to be had, the camera will find it. If you have set up the camera for a short reset interval and immediate upload and the camera is connected, you should be able to view images almost immediately. You got my number if I can be of further assistance

Best,

GWB
