Me, the wife, and 2 kids (5&6) are heading to Brownwood this weekend. Staying at the state park. Is there a place that's worth checking out for food Saturday or Sunday night? Wife is always craving cheese enchiladas. I'm open to anything. Kids are going to complain whatever the choice is.

If you have a boat and will be "on" the lake go around the bend from State Park over near the dam to Wild Duck Marina. Great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Almost always have live music on the weekends. Or you can drive there if no boat but it's a long ways around the lake. Prima Pasta is very good Italian food. For mexican either La Botana or Hacienda Leon. All good.

Underwood's and Humphrey Pete's is always good. Runaway Train restaurant is cool, but I believe it is more of a lunch spot. Diamond R Cafe in Zephyr is another good lunch spot.

Humphrey Pete’s service makes the DMV look like rockstars. Avoid.
There’s a local place called Section Hand on the road to Brady. Excellent service, great food.

underwood serves mystery meat in a basket It's just smoked, slow-cooked round steak. And pretty tasty. But no, it's not traditional BBQ. Their cobbler and rolls are A+, though.

Underwoods should just stick with rolls.

Haven`t eaten the in 10-12 years, but I`d go back to Underwood's. Always been happy there over the past 40+ years.

I agree with the Humphrey Pete’s service, I’d rather go to Whataburger.

Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

Agree on Section Hand. We always stop there on the way to Menard. They’ve got a good CFS and I’m a fan of the old style salad bar.

Circling back, we went to Section Hand for Sunday dinner. I had the spicy cheeseburger, at least I think I did. It was gone before our server came back to see how the food was tasting and my mouth had the sweet heat of jalapenos on it. I enjoyed it a lot. The wife had the CFS and the few pieces I was able to steal while she was busy with the kids were good too.
Dropped by the Blanket General Store this morning. Made it just before 1000 when they stop breakfast. Unfortunately they were out of gravy, so both the wife and I had the breakfast burritos. One is sausage, one in bacon. We enjoyed both.
Thanks all who threw the suggestions out there. Should we make it back out that way, we got a couple more places to try.
