I usually don't start mowing fields this early but I have 7 fields to mow, and they are thick. Going to be a slow go, and the overheating issue. So much trash it's clogging my radiator screens. About every 45 minutes I have to stop and clean them.

Are you seeing any large numbers of birds?

I see little specks in the air, but I think he just needs to clean his windshield. roflmao

I'm starting to see groups of whitewings in the morning and evenings in Wharton County.

New License next week, truck inspected for another year and shot gun(s) cleaned/lubed; just need to load my gear and go! Always look forward to a New Season!

I wouldn't say large numbers but I am seeing birds. Once I get the fields mowed, more tend to show up. They're around, just scattered out.

Also, I'm mowing in the middle of the day. But I did have about 30 in my driveway this morning.

Nice and wide around the perimeters so folks can find their birds.

I have lots of room after the first couple of weekends. I like hunting in October, lots of northern birds, cooler, less people.

Been busy with other things the past couple of days. Still have a 60 acre and a 45 acre field to mow. Should be able to get that done in the next few days.

I'd be sick as a dog too, if I didn't have an air conditioned cab.

One field left, will mow it tomorrow. I'll be glad when it's done, it's been a pain. Radiator screen is getting clogged about every 45 minutes due to the trash off the sunflowers. Put my gas powered blower in the tractor and that's saving some time.

Have had a wonderful season so far, but numbers are starting to get a little thin right now. Need a front to get resupplied and looks like one coming next week. So I would say to skip this weekend, with me anyway.

Need to draw on THF Hunter's experience:
Once a cold front comes through and pushes the resident doves down south,
how long does it usually take for the northern birds to come in and find the water holes etc?
Is it normally 1-2 days or 3-4 days? We hunt out west in Oklahoma and have some ponds and
we would like to time it the best we can and not waste time driving out there to see no dove.

In my experience they find fields and water holes immediately. Birds eye view and all.

Any time a front comes through, it can push out and/or push birds in. So really cold fronts effectively shuffles the deck, you could end up with more birds or less birds.

Thanks, I'll reach out to see how birds look in a few weeks.
