On my renewal, they listed each of our cars with the miles that we drove last year.
It was eerie.
I do not think I have data sharing on the usual apps on my phone. Their app does not have access to location services.
Any ideas on where they are getting it?

Do you have one of those things you plug into your ODB2 port for safe driving discount? It tracks everything from speed to braking to miles traveled.

Could be mileage checked by inspection, it could be a DriveWise or similar program with the ODB2 port, or there may be a more likely suspect that you don't know about. Depending on your vehicle make, you have to explicitly opt out of data sharing. For instance, on GM's app you have to go in and ask not to share vehicle data points which include mileage, g-force, acceleration rates, etc.. This all gets communicated to LexisNexis which insurance programs subscribe to.

Any ideas on where they are getting it? What year is your vehicle? 3 options- State inspection Oil change reporting (pull car fax on your car, a lot of oil change places sell data) Cars data collection(every vehicle since about 19 has this now, some on the fleet side earlier)

I used the plug in for the required period (maybe 4 weeks?) to obtain the safe driver discount for my insurance for multiple vehicles. I pulled that device the the moment the required reporting period was completed.

The amount of data a dealer can pull on your vehicle is scary

The OnStar in my old Denali is analog so it is inoperable due to obsolescence. On my Sierra I have the fuse pulled. My Pontiac is too old to be equipped and my Saturn has it's in tact but unsubscribed as is the case with my Chevy ... no wait, it is pretty bare bones and doesn't have OnStar ... or does it?
As a licensed inspector I can say for 100% certainty the mileage is collected and entered at the time of a State Safety Inspection.
Trackers are much more common than people think and they don't always visibly plug into the DLC.
Pass the gravy.

On my old 2012 when I removed the left dash trim piece there was a loose red led light up in the wiring. I always wondered what that was.

I got this in the email this morning. I’m wondering how Carfax gets this information. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/08/full-9493-427199-img_2845.png)

Why not call USAA? Ask them. They should tell you especially if you say you're concerned about privacy breech. You might have signed something during a renewal without reading it?

I have a 2017 F250, wife 2020 Lexus, and son 2013 Prius.
My F250 (per ford) does not collect. We turned the data off on the lexus. The Prius is too hold.
I am guessing it is oil change or annual inspection.
Our premiums with USAA wend from 490 to 660 a month of the last 3 years.
I would call them, but the people who work at USAA are dumb. They make rocks look smart.

I got this in the email this morning. I’m wondering how Carfax gets this information. They "buy" it from the F*** dealer (in your case). Generally all dealers use Carfax or something similar. Part of the corporate contract with Carfax is the agreement they get the info from the dealer's accounting system (not monetary or personal information just date of service, what was done <in general>) and can use it to display vehicle history to other Carfax subscribers.
Pass the gravy.
