We have established that everyone that posts on the forum owns multiple 1/4moa rifles, but most are getting that accuracy when shooting for a solid bench probably off bipod with a rear bag.
When shooting out of a 4x6 standard blind with a window ledge for for a rest, what do you do to maintain good accuracy?

I've got a 1x6 I set on top of my front and back shelf. Front of stock sets on the 2x2 window frame with a bag under the back. I'll see if I can find a pic. Edit: found an old pic from a few years back when I forgot my bag and before lowering my shelf down more. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-49141-426801-img_8636.jpeg)

When shooting out of a 4x6 standard blind with a window ledge for for a rest, what do you do to maintain good accuracy? Three rear points of contact. Blinds are easy as the geometry allows you multiple points of contact to get steady, I try to use corner of windows near wall for additional brace. I have a 2x4 that’s 45* angle on both ends in my blind for myself and I have a tripod for the kids

Get a nice bag to throw over the window, rest your foreend on it. I'm halfway considering trying out using a tripod to rest my rear on like at a PRS match, but not sure if there's enough space in there for everything. Doesn't really matter at the distances possible from the blind, anyway.

This. Front and rear bag if needed. I've killed out to 550 yards from this set up: ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-53199-426802-72221181082__962970b8_0615_4d49_8e80_d2c9232862f6.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-53199-426803-962bb454_2b21_48d2_bc83_f96fa51e4c38.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-53199-426804-img_2057.jpg) I can shoot 360° from up here. I build a blind to kill from, not have standing room for 3-4 people. I do enjoy a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit around 0930-1000.

At minimum toss a dark towel over the edge to prevent scratching the rifel. First one I shot from had a nice shelf. Last one had nothing and was very difficult to get accuracy with just me on the back. Bipod puts you too far back. A real shooting tripod would probably work. Just use a trigger stick when shooting from the pop-up.

I put a window shooting bag over the wood lip of the window. It depends on the stand I'm hunting and the height of the window. If I'm in my stand, the window is just at the right height for a well balanced rifle and my left hand up under the butt stock in the rear. It's very stable, but I'm only out to about 150-200 yards max (mainly 20-100 yards). In another stand, the windows are low and at a weird shooting angle to several shooting lanes. I find myself grabbing the side of the window with my hand, and resting the rifle on my hand or wrist to shoot from. It's a little more unstable, but plenty stable to shoot a deer or pig out to 170 yards. From this stand, one of my buddies brought a huge Pump Pillow as a rear bag to go in his lap for the rear butt stock. It worked good for him.

I have inside shelves and outside ledges on all our windows. Have a set of 2 homemade bags at each window for rifle support.

Great question and one most dont put enough thought/effort into. Seems most think as long as they have a single window ledge to rest they are good. Your whole body is anchored when shooting prone so I try to duplicate that. Different ways to do that but a few 2x4s and some creativity will do it. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-45514-426861-d73c4e08_5bea_4df9_87de_5c97531edfc4.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-45514-426863-6ecaf1e8_8c3b_423c_9399_e3c28823ac3e.jpeg)

The blinds I shoot pigs from have shelves that are about an inch lower than the window sills, and window rest bags work pretty well but having a way to brace your upper body makes hitting a whole lot easier. I don't always have that luxury, but now I see a way to get it.

Ole Stompy has one of the nicest blinds I’ve ever hunted out of. Puts a 1x4 down the middle to rest your arm. Very steady

I hunt out of a pop up blind. This is my set up. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-56970-426890-img_0468.jpeg)

Rest the rifle where it balances. Which is usually just forward of the magazine.
In a perfect world, you get your firing hand elbow supported, as well as your support hand elbow supported. If you can only get one elbow supported, make it be the elbow connected to the hand that will be squeezing the trigger.
I don't hunt from blinds hardly ever. But most of the ones I've been in, the window ledge is too high from the floor.

Have noticed this as well. Wonder if it’s because they don’t take elevating the blind into account? Have made the same mistake on blinds we have made in the past and it’s a big mistake!

IMO I think the high windows are because some are thinking tall bar stools instead of office chairs

I build my windows lower than most people. This allows for a lower chair and more core stability. At least for me. I like the idea of a real rifle rest though and may incorporate one in my next stand.

They never sat in a chair, got their rifle supported in a comfortable position and then measured the height from the floor to the rifle. They made a guess, and figured it was close enough.

I like one designed so you sit in a comfortable chair, can get in shooting position that you are not just supported by the chair and window sill with either my hand or bag and stabilize the trigger finger arm and shoulder the more stabile I can get the more accurate shots I can make.
Agree many stands the windows are too high and have been in a couple that were too low at least for me. A friends blinds high for me but then he did build them for him and there is a difference of 9 inches in our height.
