Our trip to Fredericksburg got pushed out for a few weeks. We went the week after the hurricane. No way of knowing this, it pushed the hot air system up to my neck of the woods in Olney. It was a 105/6 outside. In Fredericksburg it was mid 80's with nice breezes blowing. One day it was cloudy and 78 outside. It was an outstanding four days especially for the middle of July. We parked at Arch Ray RV park and was able to get a corner lot at the bottom of park backing up against the woods. Tons of owls hooting at night. No bugs when sitting outside. We ate each morning at Texas Sunrise Cafe on Adams street. Just an outstanding place for breakfast. The first night we went to the Granite House for dinner. Highly recommended by the locals, it was loud, noisy and the food was just so so at best. Very disappointing. Auslander's German restaurant never disappoints. We did Hondo's one night for dinner and two evenings for live country music. Just a great place to sit outside and relax listening to great tunes. Alamo Springs cafe did not disappoint. Burger Burger is always great. For the life of me I can't think of the other places we ate, All were great. Shopping is always fun. Good lord I have enough Texas Olive Oils for a good year or so, not to mention spices, salsas, BB sauces and marinades. We tried new winery's this time, they never disappoint. My wife loves wine tasting, I don't drink, I just enjoy the winery for what they are. As we were leaving we were able to secure the same campsite in the middle of Dec before Christmas. Fredericksburg goes all out at Christmas time.
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

Ate at Alamo Springs last Saturday for first time. Saw where it was foreclosed on a day or two later. It was just OK. Maybe a new owner will re-open it or the original owners will.

It was very close to our last place. Got sick after eating there once. I remember when the ranch that became Alamo Springs got busted up. The locals called it hippie hollow. Lots of whacky tabacky was grown in them hills. Lots of crazy money swirling around there now. Here's an original idea for that area - a vineyard!

Thank you for that report, 12th Man. (Y'all aren't a fellow Seahawks fan are you? ) Hope to spend a night in Fredericksburg here soon before BPH surgery next Tuesday. Will return to the Sunrise Cafe for breakfast and will try the Auslander for dinner. Never been there. Any lunch-specific recommendations? Sorry to hear things have gone south for Alamo Springs. I liked it.

Not a bad park. We stayed there 6 months last winter. We heard they were eventually going to sell those lots. We will be going back to Fredericksburg this winter but stay in a different location this time. We liked here very much: https://www.altstadtbeer.com/https://eakerbarbecue.com/Be sure to check out the Pacific War Museum.

Just got back from down there and had Auslanders and Pasta Bello for eats. Drank couple beer at Cultures and Pioneer other than that stayed in room out of heat. It was hot but returning to Odessa was torture...bad weather and worse drivers after turning at Barnhart.
Brayden (Lazy L's Southern Comfort) you will be missed! You were more than a pet you were my reason to rise and return for many days! You were my rock! 12/26/03-10/25/13
