I posted about my grandfather's shotgun I inherited before and someone messaged me saying they'd help figure out more information about it once I had better pictures, but I can't remember who it was since we lost all our messages. Anyway here are pictures of the gun, my parents just brought it down from Virginia. From what I can tell it was made in 1922 (Serial 150024). He got it used from his neighbor when he was 14 in 1932 and used it pheasant hunting until he got his 16 gauge Wingmaster (I have that now too). The Lefever is in his WWII book, I guess the Wingmaster is too. I actually killed my first squirrel with it before we realized it probably shoots only 2 1/2" shells. I think if he shot 2 3/4 in it they were mostly paper and lower pressure. He used it deer hunting once in Canada and missed the deer of course, he stuck with bird hunting after that. He always had Brittanys. Any further info about this would be appreciated, especially about the shell lengths. I know I can get 2 1/2" shells from RTS. If other pictures are needed I can take more. I cleaned it up after taking these pictures, it's functioning just fine with snap caps still. This will always be a family heirloom, whether it's being used or just hanging on the wall somewhere.

I have its sister in 12 GA that was heavily used by my grandfather. Yours appears similar to mine and I would guess its a field grade. I used it for doves in Texas for years. I made the switch to a semi for the third round but I actually think I did just as good with the SXS even with the 2 round limit.

Mine has a slight crack in the stock which I understand is not uncommon. Unfortunately it also has what they call a snow bulge, i.e. someone hunting with it did not notice they got snow plugged in the end of the barrel and fired it so it has a small ring near the end of one of the barrels. Its character and probably too expensive to fix. Seems to pattern OK anyway.

Still don't have power from Beryl but back at the office with a computer, here is a picture of some old 20 gauge slugs in surprisingly good condition my Grandpa had. Probably from 1930s, 1940s at the latest. It did pick up a ding in the full choke barrel at some point, how much would it put me back to have that smoothed out? I live next to Briley and they'll do it for 145, but that seems a little steep, going to check with Carter's Country.

You're gonna make me get down my old 20 ga shells. I don't have any slugs that old but I have some shells with half brass, half cardboard. I have some that are complete boxes. No clue where they are.

Pass the gravy.
