Right in front of my tree stand. Less than 10 yards. I dumped a 50 pound sack of minerals from the local spot here 12 days ago. Supposed to soak into the ground, I just dumped it before it rained. Now it smells like pee, I am sure it’s got some residual rain water too. I’d say it’s working 👌

Deer don’t scrape this time of year

Then they must be tearing that stuff up. I have not been back there since two weekends before the 4th. Dumped a sack of that stuff and they tore it up.

Apparently they do scrape in July. You got me started with google, there are lots of things about scrapes in July and August. Apparnetly this is the time to start your mock scrapes, too.

Looks like a bare spot on the ground due to the heavy concentration of product you dumped on the ground. I see no prints, tracks or scrape marks.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Alright then, i dumped another sack here yesterday. I will stick a game can in front of it next time i go home. There’s definitely hoof prints, the stiff is dry. The ground around this spot is also dry. They churned it up here.

That's not a scrape. That's a mineral lick. No different than putting a feeder in front of your stand.

Makes sense to me, thank you.

I will probably not be posting any more pictures. Not gonna waste my time.

I stand corrected. I received a text this morning from an expert who did confirm they will make scrapes outside of breeding season.

Not that a mineral lick is a bad thing. Deer will continue to use it for a long time.

That’s the idea. No hunting over bait allowed here. Load up a spot with minerals and goodies all summer, so they have a habit of checking periodically, and they will occasionally check on it for the rest of the season- long after it’s gone. As long as it’s clear of any bait 10 days before season starts, it’s legal. Which doesn’t make sense, because you can’t hunt bait because CWD. But non hunters can bait deer on their land. I guess CWD only spreads when you hunt confused2

That is a stupid law. Is a mineral site considered bait? What are they going to do, take a soil sample and test it for minerals?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they started ticketing guys for scrapes, under the assumption it’s just a mineral site. Who knows.

One thing I know for sure is I need to get my game cam up.

I don’t know where you’re at but there’s no scrapes on my ranch and the bucks don’t appear to be even mildly interested in making any.

Finally got a game cam up. Got a few young does on there yesterday afternoon, and a real young velvet buck on there.

Look at his little face and short little snout. I don’t know much about aging deer but this guy looks almost like a fawn to me.

I am having second thoughts about hunting my place at all this year. I want the deer to feel nice and comfortable on my little place.

That could easily be a last year born deer up there, no more than 2 year old but most likely year old.

He has potential for sure, for becoming a good one in the future or some good eating this year.

Be careful slipping in an out. Watch the wind. Only hunt it when conditions are right for you to not get busted and they'll be just as comfortable as if you never hunted it. If you plan on hunting it ever, might as well start now.

Just don’t go in every day or even every week. A few times a month every other month shouldn’t bother anything (unless you’re making ton of noise or smell really bad). Bring some Big & J every time, leave nothing behind; they’ll love you for it. Avoid putting up a tree stand. Don’t travel in pitch dark. And, walk slow (1/4-1/2 mile in an hour basically; almost like your standing still)

I know a good spot on public ground to pop a doe fawn. I will let him grow.

Edit- this is less than 150 yards from my back door
