I like hunting trophy country. How is the hunt experience at Big Bend State Park? Are there quail, deer, and javelina?

Yes to all. Spend your $3 and give it a try. Like BHT said, it's a long shot but at least you'll be building points and it's a cheap hunt if you get drawn.

I've put in for Big Bend SP mule deer this year, but, if I had to have a true "trophy" mule deer, I'd be looking at something out west. 'Not saying some beautiful mulies aren't grown here, but finding an exceptional specimen on a drawn Texas hunt has got to be some incredible odds. 'Depends on your definition of "trophy," obviously. I drew Sierra Diablo mule deer many years ago. The biologist told me that if I saw a buck with double forks, shoot it. I did. It was the biggest deer taken on that hunt. (Only 3 other hunters, one other buck killed.)

It's sad you killed the last one, I've heard there are basically no deer at all there, and so nobody with any sense applies.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Big bend state park has a lion problem that they have refused to deal with.

If your are relying on a draw hunt to hunt Mule deer then apply one or two states over in New Mexico or Arizona.

Funny you mention that because we saw a lion in Big Bend a few years ago while hiking. We also saw elk.
