Have any of you had a condition called Trigger Finger? An online search seems to fit the symptom. My thumb knuckle has popped just a little for probably a couple of years or more, which was really not an issue before. Now my knuckle pops painfully, as well as has swelling. It went from no big deal a few weeks ago, hoping it would just quit, to now I think needing medical attention.

Had it in my left middle finger (driving finger) last year. My hand guy gave me a shot but it started to come back. Carpel tunnel surgery (unrelated) seems to have cured it.

I had it years ago. In the thumb, I think. Doc gave me a cortisone shot in the knuckle and in a couple of days the problem went away. He explained it as a knot in a ligament that has a problem passing through the tiny hole in the knuckle bone. The shot shrunk the knot apparently.

Dehydration will contribute to it as well as low potassium. If it happens to me, a big Power Aid fixes it in short order.

Trigger finger is weird. I had my middle finger "snap" while scooting a blind several years ago. I thought I had broke something as it stayed bent a 90 degrees. I slowly and painfully moved it back to center. I went to the minor emergency place down the road and the doc said "oh, you have trigger finger" like it was no big deal, he didn't even bother with an x-ray. There was nothing to do, and it has never happened again.
There was a thread on here a year or so back where a guy had surgery to fix a reoccurring trigger finger problem.

I just remembered that my granddaughter had trigger finger on both thumbs. The first time it happened she came running and screaming. After it happened several times she would just bend her fingers back to straight and go on about playing. She had surgery to fix both thumbs.

The weird thing with mine is that it started I think 2+ years ago as a no big deal kind of thing. If I felt the catch I would push the thumb with the other hand and painlessly pop it. Now all of a sudden I can't do that. Without touching it with the other hand I pop it numerous times a day just with normal use, and it hurts and is swollen. I keep a 30 oz. tumbler filled with water non-stop from the moment I wake up until bedtime, even with Gatorade in it some of the time, so dehydration can't be it.

I'm calling an Ortho doc Monday and hopefully can get in reasonably soon. It would be great if a shot will fix this thing.

No chance of dehydration but it's swollen and hurts, sounds like arthritis or an old injury. I am prone to it due to fights from work causing damage to my fingers. Before figuring out mine are from old injuries, I had a Dr tell me it can be symptom of diabetes FWIW.

I had trigger thumb, it would jump about 3/4" when it finally moved. Shots didn't help any but the quick surgery fixed it. Took about 6 weeks to be close to normal again.

I hope it isn't arthritis. So far I haven't had any other arthritic issues. I'm guessing that by the time I get a doc visit, possibly shots, and then if surgery is needed that the surgery can be in the winter. I hopefully get this thing seen asap.

Had it on my right thumb during deer season 3 years ago, thought I had dislocated the thumb since it popped outward and painfully stayed there or went back there. Like said, it's when swelling enlarges the ligament or tendon so much that the surrounding myelin sheath can't fit around it, creating the clicking or popping sensation. Think golf practicing enflamed thr area for me. A cortisone shot and rest is what eventually worked for me. Surgery involves a surgical releasing of the myelin sheath casing of the tendon or ligament.
