Planning a driving trip next March to Utah mostly to tour the national parks in the southern part of the state and finding some out in the middle of nowhere places. Starting looking into Utah's coyote hunting laws. Good news. It's open season year round and residents and non resident don't need a hunting license. Of course you can't hunt in national parks. The bad news. Hunting only in daylight hours. Dang, wanted to bring my thermal. Also suppressors not allowed. I'd like to know the reasoning behind that regulation. Must be to give the coyotes a heads up.

Check out Wyoming along your way, might be a bounty on coyotes in some of the Western counties.
No license here either for coyotes or wolves in parts of the state.

Probably Wyoming for the next trip. The wife and I both want to visit the Little Bighorn battlefield in Montana. Starting out from Louisiana would be quite the detour for this trip.
Utah has a $50 bounty on yotes. Probably have to kill four or five just to pay for the gas to drive across Texas. lol I'll never forget the first time I made that drive back in 1970.
Took I-10 and drove what seemed like forever and got to Kerrville Tx. Was thinking to myself it can't be too much further across this state and then I saw the sign. El Paso 499.

To be successful on coyotes in Utah you will have to be well off the beaten path as the hunting pressure is quite heavy. I hunted the Worlds with my partner being from Utah and he said hunting there on public land would be a waste of time.

Thanks for the info. I'll go in with zero expectations. It's more about being out in the wide open spaces anyway. Wife says we can bring our small telescope and at least bag a couple of planets.
