Squirrels are getting out of hand. They already broke our spinner flaps. We tried chicken wire, didn’t want to use rat wire because I was afraid that corn wouldn’t get thru. We circled the feeder and even the motor unit. Still didn’t work. Anybody resolved this issue before? We’re looking for a solution that works! Thanks

Does it have the Eliminator plate? I've come around to using them in certain situations. ASF puts them on some stuff, but it's an option. You can order them from West Texas Feeder Supply.

That spinner plate looks pretty slick! Thanks for the tip, I might give that a go.

Chopper - it’s an archery only lease or else I’d have had a crack at the problem already! There were two squirrels sitting on the feeder when I pulled up to fill it last!

Keep the chains on the sides lubed with lithium spray.

I have a couple of feeders like that with the wire screens. The gaps are too big to keep out squirrels. The spinners, for a year or two, did keep the squirrels off the corn, but over time dirt caused the spinners to not work properly. The squirrels got fat. Finally wrapped the wire screens with chicken wire, but they chewed through it. Then I went to a wire cloth screen that was big enough for corn to get through. That finally sealed the win for me.

I would also use the dry lube.

100% agree. I've been using them years and have never had a squirrel problem.

If you have the time, set under a tree in the shade, we use a Ruger M7722 bolt gun with a Dead Air can at 35yds. Took
4 the other afternoon was hoping to see my black coach whip again on camera, she laying low in the this heat now!

Other alternative is set a trap with some fresh corn and come back next day! you will have some action!

1 in. x 2 in. Mesh 16-Gauge Galvanized Cage Wire has worked for me on several feeders keeping squirrels and raccoons out of the feeders.

Besides that obvious restriction.....I have tried to get a definitive answer about shooting nuisance squirrels in counties that have an open and closed season for them.

Since they are a game animal they are subject to certain restrictions. In some counties in Texas there is no closed season on squirrels or bag limits, so in those counties you could shoot them for any reason.

However in other counties (such as I live in) there is an open and closed season. Squirrels are not listed (specifically) as a fur bearing animal so the rules for dispatching nuisance fur bearing animals (addressed by the TPWD) do not apply that I can tell. I asked this question of our local GW (left a message) but my question and call were never returned.

Even Bobcat and Coyote (while certainly having marketable fur) are not considered fur bearing animals in Texas. Squirrels I have no idea where they fall with respect to being a fur bearer or not and the legal aspects of shooting nuisance squirrels. They can certainly be destructive.

Theres a solution to your problem there! go buy a metal cover and make sure it seals tight, those dudes will
figure a way to nibble to their treats! put up a game cam and see what times your buddy shows!

Then the .22 comes out! or if your simpathetic to animals to get a catch live trap! then go
drown them!

Set that feeder on some rubber or wood blocks, and drive a good ground rod nearby. Then get a solar electric fence charger and wire it to the ground rod and the feeder.

Just remember to turn it off before you go to fill the feeder.

That's how we used to keep coons out of our seed when it was parked in the barn on a trailer.

I got my eliminator plate at Buc-ees. My problem was coons. I even took my cage off. No more issues.
