When Allstate paid for a new roof for me, the person who came out and did the inspection was from a 3rd party company. She and my roofer were up there together and I had no issues.

With all the bad weather, rain and hail, I can imagine that the insurance companies are paying out a bunch of money. Limiting that monetary outflow is probably the mantra the worker bees are hearing every day. I can hear the CEO saying “People, we aren’t in this business to lose money, so resist”.

When I worked for the last big corporation, prior to retirement, I really liked the job and I liked the CEO. I thought he was a straight shooter, until one day in a big meeting with us worker bees, he said “it’s not about the money”. Well…it’s always about the money…always. He lost a lot of credibility with that short statement.

I was an agent over 40 years - not home owners or auto but health and life - I have told MANY people - work through your agent! He or she was paid to sell you the policy and the insurance companies listen to their agents way more than to a customer - an agent can put way more pressure on getting a claim paid than the insured person

After last year's storm the insurance company i use had so many claims they were using contract adjusters. The guy came and spent maybe 15 minutes and told me there was $1500 damage and it didn't meet my deductible. I complained to my agent and they sent out a company adjuster that met with the roofing guy. They agreed on $46,000 damage. The contract guy was a real prick to boot. Don't let up or they will screw you blue if you let them.

We had hail damage from this last storm. Yes we have State Farm, our agent sent an independent roofer out to inspect the roof. He went back and said yes to complete replacement. Then they sent a State Farm agent out and he spent 4 hours here measuring, taking photos. He also agreed. Still haven't received the check. They have cancelled 2 checks already because we haven't received them.
Our roof is 10 years old. The freaking depreciation is crazy. 25 to 30 year laminated high impact is what we have.
The estimate done by the agent adjuster calculated drip edge but didn't figure starter shingles, brought that to there attention.

Crazy part have $4100 deductible, ouch. You get a certain amount up front then the remainder when the job is complete. Have 1 year from the time of damage to replace.

Insurance is a scam. We had 4 large 60+ foot tall trees land on a rent house we own. Between the roof damage, gutters, 20 feet of fence that it ripped out of the ground, 20+ feet of driveway that it broke, and tree removal, they decided a fair price was $2069. Of course that was below the $2100 deductible.

Even after submitting quotes and receipts, they refused to raise the amount. We have seamless gutters and they quoted replacing 4 feet on 2 separate pieces that are 28 feet each. I explained that we have seamless and I want to go back with seamless, and they told me to pay the difference.

Their quote was $210 to repair 20 feet of chain link fence. When I asked for their contractor recommendation to get it done at the price they had nothing to say. $210 wouldn’t even buy the materials let alone pay for the labor.

The adjuster wouldn’t even look at the driveway, he just shrugged his shoulders and said we would have to discuss that with insurance.

Im not sure what good these people are for, they can all go dry hump a hornets nest

Everybody needs to get ready for big changes in the insurance world. We've been seeing it for a few years now how their writing policies. I think their trying to set a precedent on years to come. Some carriers are still pretty good, but several are really fighting to keep claim numbers down. Those deductibles are high and getting higher to discourage you from filing a claim. Read your policy fine print with a scrupulous eye.

If you really have the damage, it will eventually be ok if you're using a good contractor. It may take threatening with a lawsuit, but they will come around. Insurance company's do not want to go to court.

had major hail here in the Wimberley area. This 24 gauge standing seam metal roof has coverage for cosmetic damage. The roof is still performing its intended function. The entire roof surface is marred and with all the photos I have, these are the only dents seen on the roof surface. It has generated a claim in excess of $95,000 for a new roof.

If the entire roof is damaged how is it that those two little dents equate to a new roof? That's just wrong and the reason for our insurance problems.

You can see the cosmetic damage on the patina and yes, I agree with you.

My daughter has a 24-gauge metal roof, adjuster looked at it and said, the insurance company doesn't pay for cosmetic damage on metal roofs. I was told by one adjuster that their company was pulling out of some states because state laws only allowed a $250.00 deductible, and the insurance companies were being forced to replace million-dollar homes under the $250.00 deductible. I have no idea if that statement is true, but I can see the concern.

Yep. Luckily I have a friend that’s a great handyman and is taking care of everything. Of course it’s not for less than my deductible.

Insurance quoted $200 per tree for removal. Who would cut up trees laid over a house for $200 a tree?

I have since cancelled my policy with that company. If you can’t make me whole and you just want to piece things back together then you’re not worth my time.

When my dad had some trees fall and smash a storage building and some other stuff, the insurance lady just asked how much it cost for us to move it all. Not knowing how to answer he told her it was X number of people for X number of hours. She took that and multiplied by some standard and wrote him a big ole check which he used to buy a new shed and shared the rest with those who helped. Seems more reasonable to me...

Pass the gravy.

Years I had SF, they finally replaced the roof after claiming I (finally said a 'street' adjuster) damaged it. Changed to USAA. No problems.

I’m an adjuster with USAA. State Farm has become one of the toughest to deal with that last several years. Most likely they sent an independent adjuster out and desk adjuster made the call from there. Best bet is to request a reinspection with an actual State Farm adjuster and have your contractor there. It’s a shame companies like State Farm and Allstate among others make the process so hard these days. Gives all companies a bad name.

Now it is true in TX we are getting to bad insurance time again and most all companies are forcing higher deductibles and less or more limited coverage. That’s a big reason I’m with USAA now. My last company was great to work for and I got to pay all the claims I wanted to but the policy is changing and coverage limitations would have me paying claims and people still being mad about the settlement and I wanted nothing to do with that. I tell people all the time the hardest part of my job is saying no and dealing with arguments or escalations. Saying yes and paying makes my life easier and everyone’s happy. I could never work for Allstate or State Farm along with several others that constantly say no and force people to fight with them.

On our hail claim in 2021, State Farm sent a company adjuster and a trainee. We were treated fairly, it was my contractor that put the screws to me.

FWIW, Farm Bureau told us this past week that the 1% deductible was no longer available on our Farm and Ranch Policy. After eating a large 2% !@#$ sandwich we were wanting to change back.
