I am wanting to buy my first revolver and need opnions on which is better and why, The first is the Taurus Model 627 and the other is the Ruger GP100, Any info on these would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at the Vaquero but not to sold on the SA.

GP-100 without a doubt. Although never fired the Taurus the Ruger is just about the perfect DA pistol.

I have a ruger Sp101 in 38 special & a taurus 941 in 22 mag, both in stainless, they both go bang when you pull the trigger & shoot straight. that being said i do think that the quality of the ruger has gone down while the taurus has gone up, probably about equal now. i think that it comes down to price & personal choice.

Get the GP-100!
Taurus makes a great revolver but its really hard to beat the GP-100!
I have never been a great shot with a pistol, but with my GP-100 I look like a seasoned pro!

Which one feels better in your hand? Both are good revolvers, pick the one that feels better to you...

Whatcha gonna use it for?
If self defense, then the GP100 for sure.
If for hunting, you need to rent/shoot a Ruger Blackhawk. Single actions are (IMO) far superior for hunting and the Blackhawk is hard to beat.
The Vaquero is essentially a Blackhawk but it doesn't have the Blackhawk's adjustable sight which makes it (IMO) a superior revolver.

I try to buy every gun as if I might decide I don't like it and will sell it.
A Ruger will always sell better. The new Taurus Judge may be the exception. However, the Judge is a pretty new innovation to come along in a long time. The first Judge bargain to come my way I will likely try out.
To the original question, no question, get the Ruger.

After reading Ruger's warranty statement, I would buy the Taurus.
This cannot be fixed at the voting booth.. Wake Up You Morons!

I own a taurus tracker in .357 mag and I love it. The grip is comfortable in my hand and it holds 7 rounds. It also has a lifetime warranty. I couldn't be happier with it.

The Judge is not an innovation, it's a re-done Thunder Five from the early 1990s.
I would get a Ruger. Taurus has too many QC issues for me when it comes to handguns.

I just had an issue with a Ruger Pistol I bought and I will say that their customer service is the best I have EVER delt with and will continue to buy ruger guns.
None of this press 1 press 2 crap and on hold for 2HOURS!!!! like beretta, within 2 minutes your speaking to a person and they fixed the gun to MY satisfaction and reimbursed me transfer fees and picked up the shipping tab.
RUGER customer service A++++++

I had this same revolver and the cylinder would not lock up unless the hammer was cocked. Seems like no biggie unless you got rat shot and SPs strategicly placed. I traded it off and now have a Ruger GP-100 and am pleased with it.

I have a Ruger Vaquero .45 LC, and it shoots great. All of the .357's I've shot are just too loud.

I have a GP-100 and I've owned two Taurus revolvers, one with problems, one with no problems. I would pick the Ruger because I think it is superior in every way except price. The Ruger's warranty may not sound as good as Taurus but it is the better one if you actually have to have work done. Ruger has very good customer service.

I've owned a slew of Rugers, and a couple of Taurus', and would recommend Ruger without hesitation. While Taurus has improved, there are still more folks having problems with them than with Ruger. As to Ruger's warranty statement, remember that it was written to satisfy lawyers. From my own experience & that of a couple of people I know, Ruger goes the extra mile to satisfy customers. With Taurus, it's improved, but still a bit of hit & miss. YMMV.
