I inherited several Ruger No 1 from my dad at the end of last year. I love them. Have them in 308, 22-250, 257 Roberts, and 280AI. All good caliber for shooting whitetail, even the 22-250. Right shot placement for that one but I've killed 10-15 deer with one.
Separately, For those of y'all way more knowledgeable than me, does anyone have an idea on a value for the 280AI? It is one of the Joe Clayton special run that were limited to 125, and numbered. (just curious on the value. these guns will never be sold)

I'm down to one No. 1, an "S" version in my namesake, the .218 Bee. Hardly a deer cartridge (although I did take my first whitetail with the cartridge), this modern-day Farquharson is my "safari prep" rifle...and a dandy turkey rig in the bargain. The faux CCH (done by a 'smith now long out of the business) and some handsome wood...along with the sweeping lines of the action and lever...makes for an eye-catching package! ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/rhHQNtUl.jpg)

Doesn't matter if one is for sale. What matters is if one sold. And the price on GB is to only be expected if sold on GB, not a local price. The search terms are pretty tricky for this rifle but I found one .280AI Ruger No. 1 that sold for only $900 with five bids. Some of the other rare #1's are in the $3K range. They were almost $2K new. Aha! I see now why. Besides what I would call poor condition of the sold one, it has no barrel marking for the cartridge (like most all modern OEM barrels) and the serial number does not match the range the 280AI Rugers were made in. Pretty sure real ones have a 22" barrel and the GB sold rifle does not. The gun in question was made in 1976, about 30 years before the.280AI was born. CLICK HERE ---> "Fake .280AI Ruger No. 1". My guess is $3K but maybe more.
Pass the gravy.
