I built a 4x8x6 for close to $600 this year. It helped, that I found a steel distributor that was closing his business.

picked up 20 ft stick of 1 1/2 by 1/8 angle iron at norton metals yesterday for 13.60 a stick. .68 cents a foot.
I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

I looked at the cost and changed my mind real quick and built one out of wood. http://www.gvec.net/acero/Deer%20Stands.htm

The stands that I build 24ga. metal inside and outside with 1" ductboard insulation between the walls, carpeted to the ceiling, with shelves, sliding glass windows, on 10' legs. And a 4 pc. standing seam roof ( 5'X5')wiil scare you how much it costs. I quoted a man $3000.00 for a 5'X7' hoping to scare him off but he wants one.

Metal blinds are very durable but have you ever pulled the trigger on a high powered rifle in one? You need very good insulation or something to stabilize the sides because the boom from the rifle makes a metal stand ring like a bell. It will just rattle your head and ears to no end if you don't do something to sound deaden it.

i bought a metal framed stand from a local guy here, about 10 feet to the bottom, with r-panel sides, box 4x4x6 for $200. all it needed was a wooden floor. i think that is cheap, but thats just me.

As usual the true answer is somewhere in the middle. It depends on what you want I have not built one to those dementions but I have built a few 5X5 and 6 X 6. I do not put them on elevated stands, I use 4X4 skids. I think you could get a pretty good stand for 1200.00 Keep this much in mind they are heavy when fully insulated, capeted and shelved, however they will last many years and you don't have to worry about repainting them every year to keep the wood from rotting. good luck.

I have about $600 in materials in this 4x6x6. I would have to get $1000 for one like it just to break even. That`s why I only build them for myself........LOL

Here is a list of metal prices in my area. I am assuming the prices are representative of Texas. http://www.angletonsalvage.com/Products.htm

When I build my metal stand it is metal inside and out, I do insulate the walls between the metal and carpet everything, including the shelves. My roof is a 4 pc. standing seam roof and it is also insulated. I will NEVER build a wood stand again. We have the first metal stand I built 20 years ago still in use this year. They are expensive but well worth the money compared to most of the sh#t I have seen built by others.

I have been hunting in one for the last 10 years, NO problem. A fully carpeted metal stand makes no more noise than a wood one does.

we buy scaffolding. I think we paid about $100 for the 2 ends and the "X" braces from a place here in Houston. They are about 6 feet high and something in the order of 5 ft wide and 7 or so feet long. We mound the stand on 3 landscaping timbers and attach them to the scaffold. A 16 foot extension ladder separates to make ladders for 2 stands.
