My father has several foxes on or about his property out near Wimberley that he's looking to get rid of. He's managed to bag a couple with traps, but I was looking to take a more pro-active approach, so I'm hoping the forum can provide some advice.

Any strategies, times, etc that prove effective would be very helpful. I have a FoxPro with all the various sounds loaded on it, so I planned to use that to draw the fox in where I can eliminate him. I watched the fox cross the property twice yesterday from the back porch during the middle of the day, so I assume he's fairly active. Thanks in advance!

I’m no help as I like having them around. They are hard on the rodent population.

I have some on my property as well, and enjoy them, but he has a flock of chickens he wants to protect.

They are the easiest predator to call in and shoot at night.

They are so gullible to calling they almost seem dumb. Compared to calling in a coyote it’s not even much of a challenge.

Apparently I've got one smart fox. He came in a dozen times or so, barking the whole way, but never out in the open where I could take a shot. We'll give it another shot here in a couple weeks.

ive shot a boat load of them after my chickens threw the years and as said a few posts up they are easy to call in ! i used to put a chicken in a small cage in the middle of the yard just to watch them try to get it ,, very fun to watch .

The light in their eyes is what keeps them from seeing you. I wouldn't worry about too much light.

Guaranteed way to get a fox. Between foxes and hawks, I’ve probably lost 15 birds this year.

Must have a one of a kind based on all the comments... This guy always stayed in cover, and was barking back at us for over an hour. Going to get a game decoy to add to the caller, see if that works.

My dad has trapped several foxes with various bait, but also had the bait stolen without triggering the trap.

I wouldn't characterize them as gullible or dumb....but they are much more 'eager' than Coyote.

My experience with gray fox....is that they will usually come 'running' in and will come much closer before exercising any caution (if any at all) than Coyotes. Bobcats are the worst. Just take their time, stop, move a little, stop and stop some more.

Red Fox seem smarter. For either (Reds or Grays) I prefer a mouth call over an electronic call. I can vary the call as I like and I like to start with a soft call at first.

But yes, fox (the average one) are among the easiest of predators to call in.

Barking means you’ve been busted. It’s the fox equivalent to a deer snort. Watch the wind is all I can guess.
