The FEDs swore up and down that violent crime would end if we just gave them the regulatory authority over firearms nationwide and that is how we got the GCA of 1968. The part that they didn't say out loud when they were convincing people to support the passage of it was that they intended to make nearly everyone a prohibited person by the early 1980s. The gun control act has nothing to do with stopping crime or preventing criminals from having access to firearms. It is a cudgel to beat the law abiding over the head with and to whittle away rights one piece at a time.
