I had a Rolex in the eighties. I hated it - didn't like the size, and I'm a relatively big guy. Back when I wore a long sleeve dress shirt every day it always hung up on on the shirt cuff. I got rid of it.

I did buy a used Patek in 1975 for $600. It was a beautiful 18K men's dress watch. I gave it to my son last year. These days I don't wear a watch. I just ask the little lady what time it is. (iphone stays in my pocket)

My opinion…… I feel Breitling is a better watch than Tag. I had a Tag that I loved but it simply didn’t fit correctly and was very heavy so I sold it. My wife wears a Tag and it has been problem free, Personally, Breitling ticks all the boxes for me among the many models they offer. If I wore a nicer watch more frequently than I do currently I would rotate a Breitling in with the one watch that you are trying to avoid buying.

One other watch to strongly consider is Panerai. I first heard of this brand on a Shawn Ryan podcast a while back. One of his former Seals wore one and they briefly got off on a tangent about it. I did some research on them and when in Vegas stopped in and looked at them at the Wynn. Extremely nice and functional. Not something you typically see every other dude wearing. That would be my next watch if I were buying, However my Garmin Fenix, though not super classy, is what I wear 99% of the time. It’s the best watch for me no matter the occasion,

I’ve got a a couple Tag’s, a Breitling (my favorite), a Bulova (it’s meh) couple Citizens, couple Seikos, and 2 Omegas in the safe, haven’t seen them in over a year.

Started wearing an Apple Watch daily, haven’t seen it in a few months,

Buy a watch that has some history like a MACV-SOG. Brother bought one recently. Not cheap($1300) Make sure it's authenticated.

The Omega Seamaster is a great time piece. I have my Grandpa’s 30 year Omega. I only wear it for special occasions.

With all the fake Rolexes out there ithey have kind of like a Louis Vuitton purse. Only your real friends will believe its real at first glance.

Just my 2 cents

In my opinion, for what it’s worth, a Rolex is mainly jewelry. A one-upper watch that indicates that you have money. Not the greatest timepiece if you want an accurate timepiece. Nice looking, for sure. My wife rarely ever wears hers now that she has an Apple Watch.

That said, a fellow should buy the watch he wants. Like someone said in this chat, if you buy less than you want, you won’t be satisfied. You want a Rolex? Buy one and be happy.

I agree 603. My wife surprised me with a submariner Christmas 2000 and I wear it everyday whether I’m going to the store, cutting grass, fishing, or splitting wood and it’s never been apart.

Well,

I was going to buy one but couldn't bring myself to do it. Went and looked at several and other brands as well. Didn't have it in me to write the check.

Surprisingly, on Christmas Morning, my wife handed me a bag with a Breitling Chronomat GMT 40 inside. Pretty sharp looking watch.

Going tomorrow to get it fitted. Is there any taboo against wearing them daily? I will rotate my Citizen (I wear it daily, and it has some battle scars) for ranch work.

Just get the Fenix 8, more useful

The Fenix 8 is what I wear, really like it, would recommend

Love it, I’m on my 3rd wrist band in a little over a year

So it’s for sure a weak point or I’m just hell on them

I'm not really into watches (can't stand having things on my wrist when I'm working), but Breitlings are awesome. Not too over the top and just as quality as most higher end manufacturers. Congratulations on your new watch!

As far as taboo of wearing daily, I wouldn't say there is any. If you get bit by the bug, you eventually end up with a decent rotation of watches, so the Breit will end up with less wear than you would expect. It was a gift from your wife, it could have been a Casio and I'd still be wearing it a bunch, just because I'm such a sentimental sap.

If you decide you want something a bit more daily tier, I'm a big Hamilton Khaki fan, the simplicity of the aviator dial and leather strap does it for me.
