For daily wear.
Right now I wear a Citizen Corso that was about $300. Looking to move into something higher end but not pretentious or douchey. Was looking at and like Breitling. Don't know much about TAG Heuer, Omega, or any other brand....really the only three I know of are Rolex, Breitling and TAG. I've heard of Patel but not familiar at all with them.
Anyone with any firsthand information about some alternatives to Rolex?
To save time, I'll put it out upfront that I'm not interested in hearing stories about how your Timex or Seiko of 30 years gets the job done just fine. This is something I will wear more or less daily and probably pass down to one of the kids someday, or upon my unexpected death.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

There is no real alternative for maintaining value. I've heard that but I can't see how a higher end watch like a Breitling wouldn't maintain their value. I'm not really looking to sell it if I can help it. If I did buy a Rolex, it would be something like this: https://www.rolex.com/en-us/watches/explorer/explorer

I have a buddy that has a Versace watch. It looks pretty cool. I was unaware they had watched. He said it was around 1500. No idea if it holds value.

Rolex is not the investment it once was.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

If I were in your shoes, I’d go the Omega route. I’ve never owned one, but I’ve always felt they were the alternative to Rolex that I’d want, since Rolex doesn’t appeal to me.

Bulova makes a fine watch. had one that I liked. Took it off and put it on the back bumper to change a flat tire on the trailer. Drove off and never put it back on....

I had Breitling Gold chormomat for a while, I really only wore it for certain occasions, rest time it was in the safe, I got offered more in Gold Krugerrands then I paid for it so it was gone. Never worn a watch since.
Good watch and got lots of compliments.

I have a nice TAG. Had it for 20 years or so. The wife liked it so I got her a ladies version of mine. Then, on the 50th anniversary I got her a Rolex, with small diamonds. Mostly she wears the TAG or her Apple Watch. And I wear the Luminox when doing sweaty things.
I like watches with batteries. Won’t buy another Rolex.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

I would find something with desired features that you really like to wear and make it happen. Get something that makes you happy. They are all pretty darn good.

About 15 years ago my wife surprised me with an Omega SeaMaster Pro for our anniversary and I love it. It’s got the silver band with the blue wave face and she knew I always liked them. Value wise, it’s worth about $7-900 more than what she paid for it back then. Nowhere near what a Rolex can appreciate, but I’m not losing money on it and it’s been a fantastic watch.
About the same timeframe I remember being on vacation when we walked into a jewelry store just window shopping. They had one of the green faced Rolex Submariner’s and new it was going for $7k. It was way more than we would have ever spent on a watch, but I tried it on just for grins. I’ve seen them going for upwards of $20k now.
