I have an auodad ewe hunt this summer. I am going to use my bow. I have a Mathews lift and it has been properly tuned. The arrows I’m currently running are .006 straightness. Would it be better to run a fixed blade and buy some .001 arrows or put some mechanical broadheads on my current arrows. I’m shooting 75# with a 29.5” draw so the mechanicals should deploy no problem.

Use a good mechanical like a Grim Reaper or Wasp Jackhammer.

Just remember the vitals are a bit farther forward than a deer so hit them in the V instead of the traditional behind the shoulder shot, or get them quartering away

IMO, fixed is never a wrong answer.

Beans v no beans. I've been a fixed blade guy for the last 5 years. Having said that, any blade will do if the shot is good. Longer shots may benefit from a mechanical. It's my opinion that the shaft straightness won't make a huge difference. You'll get rotation from the shot which tends to even out shaft errors just like it does in bullets...well mostly. Shoot them with your hunting points and rank them by most consistent. My fixed blades land about an inch left of the field points at 20 yards. That could be a tuning issue or just a flaw in my release process that just shows up with broadheads. Good luck

You are going to send some arrows, so what every you have that groups best with wind at 60 yards.

Absolutely a mechanical is the way with a compound. If you already have a high energy set up, might as well use the most forgiving and accurate broadhead that you trust with your set up. That’s gonna be a mech head.

There’s enough stuff to go wrong bow hunting as it is so I use fixed.

Seems like there is more to go wrong with a fixed head than a mechanical. Except for a few that are more forgiving in flight, like an exodus or a slick trick. There are others that fly well for a fixed head, these are just two off the top of my head. I guess there are also some mechanicals that are trash, many people love or hate a rage head.

But for me, with a powerful compound, a big mechanical head makes a lot more sense than a fixed head. Trad bow, fixed head. Powerful compound, mechanical head.

It's hard for me to switch back to fixed after what I've experienced that last 12 years with mechanical. Saved me a lot of tracking on off hits. Unless I'm hunting elk, G5 or Rage is tipped...

Makes sense to me. At the end of the day, if you got enough juice to penetrate, it’s all about accuracy and forgiveness. That is where a mechanical head comes into play.

Hard to find a 3” cut fixed blade. Well, that’s because no matter how perfectly you tune, your broadhead can still steer you off target if you bobble. 3” cut is gonna be very hard to overcome. Some are more forgiving than others, but a mechanical head is more forgiving than fixed, with a few exceptions.

The bigger cut is a great bonus.
