Here is a question, and I am only curious. For you forum members headed to the Forum Doe Hunt(s), and the Ram Hunt, what is going to be your weapon of choice???? We have seen the arsenal heading topics and such, and I am just wondering with CHCs' Elephant Rifle if I am going to need a bigger bunker. I think Ken is taking his "you can throw a cat through the exit hole" 45/70, Phillip is taking one of my favorite little deer guns, a 30/30. So if you guys are headed on these hunts, lets see what your rifle or weapon of choice is?? Even if your not doing these hunts post up!!! What are you using this year for hunting??? Is it a "new gun"?? Or and old reliable you have had for years. Get as in depth as you wish. What kind of scope, ammo ect.???

Well seeing as how I just sold the 7 mag I had bought last year and never even shot. If I get to do any deer hunting this year it will be with my Savage 110 .243. It was the first deer rifle that was truly mine. My dad bought it for me for Christmas I was 12. It came with a Bushnell scope that was junk. My Step-dad put a Simmons 3x9x40 on it. Longest shot was 357 yards roughly stepped off by my step-dad who was 6 foot 2. I know when I absolutely positively need to kill something that is my most reliable gun. Now that is probably also because that is the one I am the most practiced with.

Yepper, I'll have the 30-30, Win 94AE. Topped w/ a 4x Simmons, it really likes 150gr Win Power Points. I've tried to justify a "long range" rifle for a few years now, just can't seem too. I guess one of these days I'll just have to break down and spend some money just 'cause I want too. That said, I may talk my Dad into loaning me his 222 just in case theres some strictly varmit hunting time.

Hope to get cleared by the Doc's to shoot again by Thanskgiving after all the carving done recently on my neck, that has turned back into a spinal cord issue again. IF/When the issues are cleared easily I'll prolly use the 270 Tikka WTHunter...or whatever the new gun becomes that my dealer buddy owes me from the last CZ sale he did for me. If I had to make a choice right now with the sore neck and shoulder to live with a 257 Rbts or a 6.5x55 is looking better and better...something with even less recoil than the 270...or just shoot some Federal Low Recoil stuff until I know whether or not the problems are going to become a long term deal like they were in the early & mid '90's...then a 6.5x55 begins to look really good. Sorry to hear about your medical problems, Ron. I hope it gets worked out. I had a chance a couple of years ago to purchase a 257, kick myself in the butt no for passing on it. My daughter could have used it, instead I got her a 243 Winchester.

I will be using both my Remington 700 Sendero in 7mm Mag and my TC Encore .50 caliber. Both are topped off with Leupold 3.5X10X50 VariXIII's. In the 7 mag I shoot handloads with 150 gr. Sirroco's. In the Encore, I shoot 100 grains of 777 behind a 250gr. Barnes Expander MZ bullet. Both of these rifles love to shoot hogs in the off season too.

On bucks I usually go with either 25-06 (100gr) or 30-06 (150gr)in Rem 700. If I am going doe only I take 22-250. This year I will be trying out my new REm 700 SPS Stainless in 204 with solid berger bullets. (Does are head shots only) Other than that will be shooting all game with my bows (compound and recurve)

For the Ram hunt, I will be bringing Lora's 257 Roberts and either my 300 or 340 Weatherby i case I glass up an Audad and get a chance at it.
For the Doe hunt, Lora will be using her 257 and I will probably bring either the 35 Whelen or the 375.

I going to use a 300 WSM with 165 gr. hornady interbonds for a Colorado mule deer and elk hunt and for back up a 7mm-08 with 120gr. nosler ballistic tip. Here in Texas I'll stick with the 22-250 with 55gr. v-max.

Primary for me is a 2005 PSE Shark. But if all else fails I will resort to the rifled Rem.870 with .45cal sabot slugs.

I'll start off in the OK Muzzleloader season with my 50cal. TC Omega with a 3-9x40 Bushnell Elite 3200. For gun season I will take my Remington 700 LSS in 7mm Rem Mag with a 3-9x50 Leupold, and as a back up I have my Kimber sporterized 6.5x55 with a 3-9x40 Bushnell Elite 3200. I'll also have my Ruger 44mag Super Blackhawk Hunter with a 2-7x32 Burris for any thing within 50yds. I might also take my new Tikka Stainless Lite in 22-250 with a 4-14x42 Burris Fullfield II to take care of a yote, hog or turkey.

To start out, it'll be my Hoyt X-Tec, with CX Maxima arrows, and Liverty Broadheads. I am primarily a bow hunter, but I may break out my H&R .25-06; not a looker and didn't cost much but is the best shooting rifle I've ever owned. Has a Leupold VX-1 3-9X40 scope, Remington Ammo. I've told my self for years that this is the year I will start to re-load, and I suspect this year will be no different.

I had the same setup on my 10FP. That was one sweet shooting rifle. I almost regret parting with it. I will be hunting with my good ol' Remington 700 30-06. I have hunted with it every year that I have had it. Not a real "creative" choice, but she is tried and true for me.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither...

I just bought a new T/C Pro Hunter in .280 rem. and I'll probably start out with it. I have a custom built rifle on a rem 700 action in .270 win. that will be the other weapon of choice. Both are topped with a Nikon Monarch 5.5-16.5x44 matte finish scope. Shooting 140 grain Accu Bonds in both. Either should do their part if I do mine.

Okiebug , you are right about that sounding like a sweet shooter. But if he is getting 3343 out of 168 gr'ers it has to be a firebreathing 30 cal mag...and I'd guess either a maxed out 300WMg, 300 Wby, 300 RUM or maybe a Wby 30/378...but I'll be interested to see what he sez. That! is a LOOONG range elk stomper. Ron
