This may take a while before it becomes available in products we use, assuming it does make it into production, but it's interesting. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidh...-powerful-thermal-imagers-at-lower-cost/ They're going from a single chip solution to a 2-chip product, but each of the two chips is much cheaper to manufacture than the current technology.

Looks like near IR sensors for automotive stuff. We want far IR with germanium lens. Two layer assembly makes QC easier, toss 1/2 the bad parts.
