I've never seen this happen before. My buddy and I were hunting with Avian X LCD look out hen decoys. They've worked fine for years. This spring on our first day we scored. The next day we each setup in different areas. We both had hens and some jakes come in. They came up to check out decoy thinking she was the real deal. They ended up putting and left. For the next few days they'd come down off of roost. I bet they got within 50 yards and started their putting alarms and moved off. They weren't going to come in for nothing. Unfortunately, where the ladies go, the toms go. We've decided we need to switch out our decoys next spring when in the same area on different days.
Anyone tried those foam fold up decoys?

Anyone tried those foam fold up decoys? They could have figured ya out. Is there any chance they busted ya when you were picking up to leave? I tried some foam fold up dekes. The ones I got weren't very expensive. Way too light. They didn't pop out and hold their form well at all and they looked like they were having a seizure in any wind over 5 MPH.

Those foam fold-ups decoys are ok-ish, they are getting the job done, alright, but the Realism factor might not be high enough to fool the more wary birds, which is the problem you're facing I think. So I just think you need to renew your current decoy, but if you decide to still get the fold-ups, you won't struggle to carry them around or set them up.

We didn't get busted. I was tucked in nicely between two bushy trees. I could see there approach through the branches. They never looked my way, however when they saw the decoys, they putted and walked the other direction. My buddy said pretty much the same thing. We're going to pick up some other decoys and switch them out on different days.

Depends on the bird and the day, along with the quality of the decoy and your set up. Turkeys are ... complicated.
