One benefit of the 5.56 AR is the velocity. From ten feet away, even out of a 16” barrel there is a good chance that even a 55 grain fmj is going to fragment. 55 grain vmax is going to explode inside the body, anything that might exit is not going through the wall. But the trauma is absolutely devastating.

I have a Remington 870, 18.5”, black plastic stock, big old ugly C-More red dot. Use same gun for turkey. It’s loaded with 3” TSS number 7 from the turkey hunting. 900 holes heading their way.

I`ve owned a Winchester 1300 Defender for 30 years. Only been shot 2-3 times. Bought from a woman who worked for me. Her husband bought it and had a heart attack about a month later. I even have the same shell he bought for it. It will be nice to have if the SHTF.

Well, I took the Maverick 88 to the range last week with some other guns to test and it would not extract the first two shells fired -- Monarch 2 3/4-inch 00 buckshot from Academy. I'll try some Federal next time.

I've seen the cheap Winchester ammo lock up more than one shotgun as well

RJH, you are absolutely right. You simply must run your shottie with ammo it likes if you want real security. Has anyone else had issues with the Academy/Monarch buckshot ammo?

I have used a couple of cases of the monarch 00 on pigs and never a problem, it was not academy though. I now use sellier and belot, seems to be a bit better in the 870. 220.00 and free shipping on a case https://www.sgammo.com/product/12-g...-275-inch-9-pellet-oo-buck-shot-ammo-sb1

DP-12 is primary; Escort VTS in 410 bore is secondary. DP-12 is in the bedroom; Escort is wherever I happen to be camped out in the house.

And brother they ain't cheap! If you have 10 of them as you stated, what models? Also please post pictures so we can see what you have. Frio

Frio I am sure he was joking but I would not be surprised if this were true 🤣. I think Buzz gets a new custom gun bi-weekly and sells them on THF classifieds to make room for the new-new.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Wasn't sure why anyone would need a breaching devise for a home defense shotgun. An 870 youth 20ga is all one needs. Today's marketing sells a bunch of chit. But I'm old and have outgrown my need for tacticool stuff and my Navy Seal operator beard has long since been shaved off

Good video/review. I've had a few 88s and always liked them but never kept one. Not sure why. Put this 870 together back in the late '70s. Stan Baker cut the 28" Modified barrel to 20" and installed his Winchoke-interchangeable choke tubes. I've shot trap, skeet, dove, quail, skunks...even hogs...with it. Only had to deploy it in personal defense mode once (right after Katrina) but gunfire wasn't required (thankfully). Other light-equipped 870's are spaced around the house as well... Mark ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/aQLdDVbl.jpg) Real pretty. I have its little sister. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/05/full-2320-420968-1000007306.jpg)
