Most of mine were either no longer legal due to the 3" diameter requirement change or just worn out. Or some older ones were completely covered in markings and dates going back almost 25 years. I have been in a fix it or throw it away mode lately, so I rebuilt several and threw away some others that I am replacing with lighted tip up ones. I chunked my old bucket mix of bricks, railroad ties, window weights, etc. and currently making new weights out of tea and water bottles that can stack in the crates with the noodles and not get rust all over me. It turned into a lot more work than I thought it would, but should be a nice set with enough extras to last several years. Each crate should neatly hold about 10 noodles and weights ready to go. I hope to run some of them with the canoe in a week or two. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/05/full-1680-420751-20240518_151218.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/05/full-1680-420752-20240518_151614.jpg)

I use the plastic plant ID tags to write the date on. You can get hundreds of them for a few bucks.

More than 35 years ago, Canyon Lake and San Marcos/Blanco river. Lots of plastic pop bottles and window weights at the lake, limb lines on the river. You’ve got some nice rigging!

I use the plastic plant ID tags to write the date on. You can get hundreds of them for a few bucks. You can't tell from the angle of the picture. I did not want to share my address and license numbers with the world. My customer numbers and address to cover me for TX and OK is on all the noodles. Some written on the PVC with a industrial permanent marker. With the old markings sanded off, the new markings are not going to be wearing off that rough surface. Lots of room to add dates many times before I sand it and start over in a few years. The ones without exposed PVC have the data written on a band of duct tape and then covered with a band of clear 3M tape. It's not coming off. Some of the 2 1/2 inch noodles I stripped off had been done this way several years ago and held up fine. On those I also have a band of glow in dark gaffers tape above that duct tape band for writing dates on. No separate tags needed.

Yes, my dad and I jug fish. It's a great method that rarely leaves you empty handed. We did most of our juggin in Fort Phantom by Abilene. We would set out our jugs and then go bass fish and come back to check them. We always had catfish on our lines and some strippers.

Do you have a special "honey hole" you catch those strippers at? Does it take a really big worm to catch them? Asking for a friend.

used to. white bleach bottles, #50 line, brick for weight tied to line with duct strap and three hooks loop knotted on so you could adjust the depth of the hook. never used noodles. wrong time of year now with all the pleasure boats and jet fleas on most lakes.

When i ran jugs i never had a set up like yours. You got it down to a science, i really like your style. I would love to run jugs with you just one time, i bet i would learn a few things.

I live on Lake LBJ & I have done a little juglining, but nothing as organized as SJ. I had an oldtimer living in the neighborhood (he past away) that I would help once in awhile run his lines. His equipment & boat were all set-up to do it. He caught some big catfish! Every once in awhile he'd call me up & offered me a catfish or two if he had really good luck. He knew I liked 15 lb or better catfish (especially yellow cats). I'd rather clean one big catfish than a lot of little ones. One of his complaints (& other juggers) is that people could easily see the jugs moving around & would steal the fish! Some were caught red-handed & what could you do - have lake-rage? I miss that old codger. For bait he use to say "The bigger the perch the bigger the catfish".

I used to run jugs on Livingston. I was always amazed that I could catch catfish over a 40’ river channel on 5’ of line . Live shad . Really a fun way to fish with kids too

In the 60's I got to go with my uncles to run trotlines on Tawakoni. They always kept a big sharp knife handy because these trotlines were weighted down heavily and they wanted to be able to cut themselves free if they ever got hooked, which luckily never happened. They knew exactly which trees they were tied to, but needed a snag that they would throw out to bring up the line.

brings back great memories from early 70s with Dad ruuning trotlines using a long stick gaff hook to raise line {back then you didnt mark them], catching bait bream and just dropping them in bottom of flat bottom {natural livewell from leaking hull} until have to crank up and drain water with plug pulled until stop at new fish spot, and running 100s of jugs. Your set up looks great and sport has come along way with equip and regulations

Yes sir, I have done that. We used to do it on the Llano River northeast of Junction towards London, Texas. My grandparents enjoyed fishing with the grandkids and we caught many a good yellow cat and channel cat out of the Llano. Next best thing was getting them home and having a fish fry. Fun times for sure.

I did a fish fry about this time last year for over a hundred people. All fish were caught by my wife and I. All cleaned and cooked by me. When I volunteered it was to be no more than 30 people, but it kept growing. I felt like I was in a reality fishing show pressured to meet my quota every day that week. Most were rod and reel catfish and crappie, but I was falling behind on the numbers so I broke out the old juglines. It was then I realized most were not legal anymore and I had to scramble to fix the rigging on the ones that were legal. I was not able to run many of them, but they saved me with some bigger fish. That was when I realized I needed to make up the two or three crates with everything, floats, weights, and lines, ready to go in each crate and a few extra to replace the expected lost and stolen ones. That way I can just grab one or two crates and go. More often than not these days being retired I am a spur of the moment fisherman. And hunter for that matter.
Been a long time, but I also run YoYos. I ran them as a kid on Caddo lake out of a canoe. It is no longer legal in Texas, but they are in Oklahoma. I have run them on the Red along with some juglines, and would really like to get back up there this year for more of that. It can be fun to sit at a campfire on the bank or a sandbar and listen for the yoyo line spring zip sound when a catfish gets caught on one of them. Retrieve, reset and paddle back to the sandbar to wait for the next one. In OK, you can keep any gamefish you happen to catch too.
Like others on the thread. I started with trotlines. Originally with my Grandfather. But I am done with trotlines. I had three left stored with the old juglines. After stripping what hardware off of them that I can use on the juglines, they are going in the trash.

Here's an old thread from TFF on how I build mine. If you know someone that does construction at hospital, they can get you the lead lined sheetrock that I get my lead from. I have enough to last for my self but not enough to get rid of any. Makes it nice that you can wrap your weight around the whole thing https://texasfishingforum.com/forum...-pool-noodle-jugline-design#Post10222017

You can sure fill a boat with jugs in a hurry, be sure to leave some for seed. I'm addicted to rod and reel, nothing like reeling in large fish!

I like to drop some out and go hit 2 or 3 brushpiles for Crappie, come back and check jugs, rinse and repeat.
