NVRS Gen 1 night vision scope. Runs on 2 AA batteries; has an "ON/OFF" switch; and a rheostat to control the "massive" IR light. That's all. No audio, no video, no recording of anything. Made in Russia and weighs about what a Russian soldier weighs. Works quite well if you have low expectations from your night vision optics!

Interesting. I have an early 1960s Czech night vision scope, but other than the one I have, I am not schooled in what other old military NV that was used. Do you know the history on that model or when it was used? Originally Soviet military used or something made for export?

John, I was never able to dig up any history on this scope. I bought it, years ago, at a gun show, and the guy I bought it from told me that it was a "Vietnam Era" scope, and that he had bought it from a person who did not have any history to share with him. It is stamped with "Made in Russia," but that's about it. I killed a bunch of porkers with it mounted on various rifles. It is a decent 75-100 yard NV scope, but the new technology has beaten it, performance-wise, by a lot. It is so large and heavy, that it really isn't much fun to use on a carry rifle. Sitting in a blind with a nice tripod or rest of some sort makes it a bit less painful to use. I bought it because it was/is in beautiful condition (I don't think it ever went to war in the jungles of the 'Nam or any place else) and the price was right. My kids and grand kids get a big chuckle out it, and they love using it. Hopefully one of our other THFers can shed some light on this model's history.
