In the early 1990's there were lots of late night street racing spots in that area: Kiest Bld., Hampton Rd., Westmooreland, Cockrell Hill, Duncanville Rd. ... but I was in 1st grade in 1980 and later never visited during the day.

Pass the gravy.

Brings back fond memories, but not in 1980.

Use to hang out there a bit on Sundays from 1970 to 1975, back then most folks were drinking Bud, Schlitz, Miller or Coors.
The woman in the interview lives on Rugged Dr. by the east entrance to the park, back then the gravel shoulder parking area
around that entrance was known as convicts corner.
A whole lot of good times but you did not want to be there late on Sunday evening, by that time there were a lot of really drunk people and it could get ugly quick.

In 1974 turned 18 out of school, worked saved up enough money in 1975 and got my azz out of the parents house, moved into The Trails apartments in NW Dallas in the Bachman lake area, got a job with Goody Goody liquor stores delivering liquor to night clubs and restaurants in the N. Dallas area,
Would go to White Rock lake on some Sundays, same stuff going on, the female aesthetics there were off the chart for a while banana Seldom went back to Kiest park on a Sunday unless I was in the area visiting my mom.

Back in the early 70's there was a whole lot of street racing especially on Friday nights on Westmoreland Rd. between Loop 12/ Ledbetter Rd and where it dead ended at Red Bird lane. 3 nice paved lanes each side with good street lighting.
Most spectators would park their vehicles on the shoulder of the undeveloped east side of the road, a lot of the racers would park in the warehouse on the west side.
Dayum there were a lot of cool muscle cars and races back then!

Spot on there , sir. If memory correct, starting line was near Redbird and you had to shut it down before the railroad tracks.

I remember one weekend night, summer of 69 or 70, some guy trailered in a mid 60s Baracuda that was only about $1.50 from being a Pro Stoker. He could jerk the front wheels off the ground.

I never cruised Kiest Park or hot rodded Westmoreland on a regular basis . I would tear A up and down Buckner and around White Rock lake. My daddy always said "If you mess in your own back yard, you will track it in the house ". I figured he speaking from experience.

It's been 30 years for me so I am not sure. People like to go REALLY fast on the interstate now and call it street racing. We called that rat racing. Street racing for us was from a stop and usually not enough room for more than an 8th mile.

I once made a list of spots I frequented from about 1993 to about 1997. I'll look for it...

In the meantime, here is my car at Kennedale in 1992 or 1993.

I guess blkt2 is gone from the forum. Otherwise, I would have expected him to post some ridiculous lie about how many cars he raced, how many girls he picked up, how much azz he kicked, and how many times he got arrested.

It's got to be killing him then to not be able to come up with a tall tale on one of his favorite topics.

Back in the late 80's we used to race out by Shiloh and Lookout (before The Bush Turnpike). We also used to race in a warehouse district off of Jupiter and Miller Road area. By 1989-1991, street racing and open consumption of alcohol was HIGHLY frowned upon by the fine gentlemen in blue, so the racing spot would move every weekend. You had to find out by word of mouth where to go.

THIS

I was right behind you on the timeline.

Here is my list:

  • Lombardy Ln. between I35E and Loop 12 (behind what was a strip club back then)
  • Goodnight Ln. between Crown Rd. and the eastbound LBJ service road) ... everyone referred to this spot as Emerald
  • Luna Rd. between California Crossing and Irving Blvd...we called it California.
  • West NW Highway Irving/Los Colinas where Specs is now and west of the old Sam's. This is where a drunk radio guy ran through a crowd of people leaving Los Colinas in the middle of the night. Called NWH
  • Luna Rd. between the westbound LBJ service road and Mercer Parkway
  • Regal Row between Irving Blvd. and the rail bridge (overpass) ...referred to as Regal Row.
  • East Trinity Blvd (Irving) going west from South Beltline down the street from the old Super Shops ... called Shady Grove (which turns to Regal Row in Dallas) because it was near the intersection of Shady Grove and Beltline.
  • Investment Dr. (Dallas) between Duncanville Rd. and Dan Morton Dr. ... known as Astro because the drive in was around the corner
  • Platinum Way between Westmoreland and Cockrell Hill ... called Platinum
  • Ledbetter and Duncanville Rd. (I have this in my notes but I do not remember the exact spot)
  • Wheatland Rd. in front of Carter High School ... Carter
  • Westbound I20 service road between I35E and Polk
  • Then there was a few spots near Risinger Rd. and I35W in Fort Worth but we only went over there a few weeks in a row one summer.

I left out maybe two we visited a few times but that's most of them for me.

Pass the gravy.

‘71, - ‘73…it was Forest Ln. for us, between Midway and Webb Chapel…not a ton of racing, some, but a lot of preening and showing off.

We just THOUGHT we were cool…..

Nope We Knew We Were Cool up

Yep a lot of younger folks parked in the strip center malls facing Forest Lane sitting on the hood of their vehicles, having fun with the other youngsters cruising up and down Forest Ln. with their windows down hoot and hollering at each other.

What is really cool is the brick wall on the north side of Forest Ln. still has the painted murals on it!

Those cruising streets were everywhere in the early /mid '70's. I ran East Texas towns from Livingston to Lufkin down to Port Arthur. Making the drag !

In those days you could buy a rumblin' quick street racer off the showroom floor and lot's of folks did. Heyday for muscle cars.
