hahaaha.

It used to be a normal thing. Think back to the 80’s, everybody tried to keep the minimum to at least get through a natural disaster. It might be 2024 but a big tornado comes through doesn’t care how technologically advanced we are, you’re still screwed. Hurricanes, even worse. Earthquake, etc. You should have the minimum to stay fed and hydrated for a couple of weeks, and fight off looters and other desperate people.

We are prepared for a much longer stay than weeks. Final piece we need to add is our solar generator and if SHTF before that we will just deal with a little less comfort.

I ain't goin nowhere. Better odds staying here and hunkering down. Neighbors are preppers with like 5 years of food for 2 people but only have a .380 pistol and very limited skills shooting it, I'm taking them out first when we get hungry. elmer rifle

Yep when we get hungry, cold, hot and no shelter in these times we'd just take it.

I remember in Y2K they'd show some Clown on the news with a whole basement full of MRE's. How long do you think he'd have them if the rest of us were hungry. hammer

IMO it would be better to have extra food and water and work with your neighbors on how to protect each other.

I could arm my entire street.

Absolutely positively. When hurricane Rita hit Houston back in...what, 2005? They basically tried to evacuate Houston and it was as much a disaster as the hurricane itself. Here in the DFW area it became difficult to find gasoline for a day or two, and that was while I-35 and I-45 were parking lots. A little voice told me "in case of widespread panic and disaster, you ain't goin' nowhere, Son."

I unpacked my bugout bag at that time.

If I was the only one who realized there was a disaster in progress, it would be a different story. And, it would be a different story in other ways too, wouldn't it? LOL.

Best thing you can do is band together with neighbors, watch out for each other, and try to keep the peace.

What is that good for? Serious question.

Besides a drive by or a spray and pray on the streets of Somalia, does that have any practical use?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I'm not bugging out, I'm bugging in. Maybe run some additional barbed wire in front of the compound. When the power goes down, we'll be busy smoking, canning and making jerky out of all the freezer meat.

God is so good to me.

M1 Carbine is a fun shooter and ammo is fairly light and compact (mags are smaller as well). Old browning semi auto 22 rifle, CZ75 9mm and Ruger Mark IV 22 for pistols
