My youngest who is the ambidextrous pitcher finally pitched in a game left handed. He is on a AA 10U team and they played up in an 11U tournament. He pitched against a AAA 11U. He went 3 innings and only gave up one unearned run and had 5 strikeouts. The 11U mound is two feet longer than 10U so he felt really good about how he performed. Sorry, had to brag on my kiddo. I was terrible at sports but everything comes so naturally to him.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of an ambidextrous pitcher before.

I can throw a ball virtually the same with either hand and would switch hit on occasion, but I’ve never heard of it being employed during game time ( switching throwing hands)

It's very rare.

I would imagine so. If he can do both effectively I would say it will give him a huge advantage at the high school and collegiate level.

Thats the hope. Having coached at the high school and collegiate level I completely understand how things change, kids can be dominate at a young age and get to high school and be average and the opposite is true as well. One thing about this kid is his laser focus and desire to be great. He is the most competitive kid Ive ever been around. I have to actually slow him down because he would do nothing but baseball all day everyday. He has a coach that does core training with him and arm care and he loves doing that as much as he loves hitting and pitching.

That's awesome! I have a kid that is extremely talented but not laser focused, so I hear you when you say that the present skill level isn't indicative of future skill. I hope he continues to do great!

Big fan of youth sports. You have a hard working kiddo. Have been to tons of games have never seen a ambidextrous pitcher. Good luck to the young man.

Switch handed pitchers exist and they came up with a rule and named it after him in Pro ball for him The Venditte Rule. Basically once a pitchers declares which hand they will use for a batter on that at bat the pitcher cannot switch hands until the next batter.

Very few people are that ambidextrous.

He is, I just mentioned he did pitch left handed for the first time but the other stuff and pic was in reference to him playing up a level.
