If I had to pick one I would go with BB. But I don't have to pick one so for decoying birds I shoot them with 2s 3s or 4s. when they hang up at the outer edge later in the morning I shoot BBs with a good choke.

I'll second 3" #3's for decoying geese. Even greaters are DRT inside 35 yards.
If brilliant men are roses then I'm just a field of daisies.

I'd go BB if you don't know what they are going to be doing. I got a few boxes of Kent 3.5" #1s that are pretty money too. Good in between load. I also made some 3.5" duplex steel reloads with BB and #2s once. I never patterned them and they are too big of a pain in the [censored] to make so I would not suggest them.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

Man without reloading, if you can find those duplex loads they are great. When we go I usually stick to 3.5 because we are pass shooting more than anything, if we work a spread then 1 or bb 3s will do just fine.

The knock against duplex loads is people say they don't pattern that well. But they say alot out there and I'd rather pattern them myself to find out.

12 ga 3" steel BB's would be my choice. Any load larger than that needs to be fired from a 10 ga.
If you need more range, get some Hevi-Shot #2's. They will kill geese a lot farther than they should be shot at.
