I need a 16 ft tandem axle trailer to occasionally haul heavy loads that my 1/2 ton Chevy truck doesn't want to stop efficiently.
I am wondering if is cost effective to add electric brakes to and exiting 16 footer or just spend the extra money and buy a trailer with the brakes already
in place. Will i need a brake controller in the cab etc? This is a new world for me and am seeking advice.

.

I thought about doing the same thing a couple years ago, decided to just go buy a new trailer with brakes...most new trucks come with the trailer brake controller built in, if not it isn't difficult to add one, mostly plug and play. There are plenty of folks here sharper then me on the subject, maybe some will chime in.

Don’t know about adding brakes but Curt makes a wireless controller that plugs into truck jack so you wouldn’t necessarily need a controller in the cab. Just have to download app

1. Where do you live, I have no problem helping you install them.
2. Yes they will make a huge difference on a half ton.
3. What are you driving, most trucks built in the last 15 or so years have a trailer brake controller AND yes you will need one.
