Not sure where to put this, but I assume it is some sort of TX gun law legislation.
Long ago, the LTC rule was you can carry based on what you qualified with. If you qualify with 45 ACP, you can carry any round from the 45 ACP and smaller. If you qualified with a 9mm, you could not carry the 357 Mag, 40, 44 Mag, or 45 ACP.
Is that still the case? Or if you qualify for your LTC, you can carry revolver or semi and no limits on cartridge.

Your LTC is valid to carry any caliber, revolver or pistol.

I think the law was pistol or revolver and it was 22 and smaller or any caliber. My wife qualified with a 380 to make sure she could carry anything.
I qualified with a 9mm in 1995 and carried a 40.

Thank you. Maybe I was just remembering weird. I'll be qualifying with a semi-auto 9mm, but also have 45 ACP in the house.

Nothing on lic to distinguish, so nope. IIRC there was a restriction at one time.

I don't believe there was ever a cartridge restriction. There was a revolver versus pistol restriction but that was eliminated a long time ago.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

i qualified with a 9mm the first year it was available. I think 380 was the smallest one could use to qualify at that time. I had a Walther in 32 I would have used but borrowed a friends Clock to qualify because 32 was not acceptable at that time IIRC. If you qualified with a revolver the license was restricted for revolver carry, with a semiauto you could carry revolver or semi.

Originally, if you qualified with a revolver, you could only carry a revolver. If you qualified with a semi-auto, you could carry either. But, as stated, that was eliminated years ago. Now, you qualify with what you want (.32 cal or bigger I believe? Maybe they did away with that too.), and carry what you want.

Not only was the revolver vs semi-auto restriction done away long ago, as of 3 or 4 years ago we now have permit less carry. There may be some perks to being licensed, but you can now carry whatever you want without a permit in a holster, open or concealed.

Constitutional carry doesn't cross state lines. If I want to carry in other states, you need a legitimate LTC.

You could write a very thick book on the various rules and regs between licensed and not and other state laws and requirements that would fill several pages of posts if we wanted to start listing them. And State's Bills are introduced every year with some passing and constantly changing things. Which is another good reason to get a LTC. But being a basic question about a non existent caliber restriction in Texas confused from the revolver vs semi auto restriction that is now long gone, I surmised he likely also did not know that he can now carry in Texas without a permit.

I got mine thru our local sheriffs office and had to qualify with both a revolver and a pistol. There were no caliber restrictions with the exception of it had to be a centerfire, if I remember correctly.

The qualify-cartridge-or-smaller rule still obtains in New Mexico, as does the revolver vs auto for a CCW. And you may not carry a .22 concealed under the NM license. I qualified with a 1911, but our instructor also kept a Smith Model 625 and half moon clips to loan out for shooting the qual targets with a revolver. Nice guy.

I don’t carry but toss one in the car when I leave town. I don’t recall ever seeing anyone carrying. But, I don’t look.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
