I have had several different trail cameras for the past few years, but have been unable to find a "reliable" brand. I started out with 3 $200 each Stealth Cams. They worked perfect for about a year then they started going out and all just finally quit, of course after the warranty had expired.
I then decided to switch to a cheaper camera and I got the Moultrie D40 that are normally $99, but got several on sale for $69. I now have 6 of those. They seem to work pretty good especially for the price, but occasionally they will go out and I have to send them in or take it back to the store and trade for a new one.
Does anyone know of a "reliable" brand that really works like they are suppose to? I can't afford to pay $300 bucks for one, but would be willing to pay a little more if I could find one that would work and keep on working as it should. Any info would be appreciated.

I don't understand why they can't make a reliable camera for a decent price. If I had more electrical knowledge I would just make my own for a fraction of the price company's want for their 1 yr. product.
Is there anybody who has had the SAME camera for at least 3 years & never had a problem w/it? If so, which 1 because I'm geeting it!

I'm getting real tired of these $200 disposble cameras. They last through a one year warranty and then look out. Moultrie's lose their IR sensor and start taking pictures everytime the wind blows, the clock loses time, they burn through battries. On the new Moultrie IR's everyone I have had (5) the LCD screen started going out. I replaced them through Cabela's and Academy, taped over the window, and we'll see how that works out. It's gettin real old.
When I was at Cabela's the customer service rep said they didn't have many problems with the Moutrie IR's. I asked which one had the least returns - Cuddeback, StealthCam, Wildview?, she said Moultrie IR. Hard to believe. I'm looking for something else next time too.

Have 3 cameras. Cuddeback no flash for 3+ years, cuddeback excite or capture i forgot for 2 years and a recon IR for a year. They have all had no problems and i love all 3. The capture/excite whatever one it is doesnt have the best range so takes slightly fewer pics but the recon and no flash ARE AMAZING. Both are around 300 brand new

I have a moultrie 2.1 game spy that has been out in my yard for just over 3 years, and it is still working. Now that is the exception I have had many I sent back.

I have had a Camtrakker since 2001 and have used it every year without problems. It is a 35mm film camera but I still use it. I think they make a digital camera but I would have to check.

On the new Moultrie IR's everyone I have had (5) the LCD screen started going out. I also wasted money on the Moultrie IR60 and I have an LCD I can't read. The best camera I have ever had was on of the original cuddyback. It has taken over 17,000 pictures(from the master counter) and battery life is good. The flash is finally starting to go out and its a pain to set up but, it has lasted over 7-8 years(I guess) Here is a pic I got from it recently. Wish I would have bought more of them!

Add me to the moultrie "can't read" list. They made it through the first year ok - could read the displays. All last year they still worked but I couldn't read the displays - just had to leave everything the way they were and be happy with it. This year, out of 2 one only takes pictures and only IR so even during the daylight I get b/w IR pics - should work ok to just let me know whats there, when I have the extra bucks I'll replace the POS.
The other went completely tits up. I'm replacing it this weekend. I'm not going the moultrie route again. I've read alot of good about the Bushnell Trophy Cam. I think I'm going to give that one a try. If I like it, then the other Moultrie will be replaced with one too.

My brother bought his before the season started in 2007. He did a search for trail camera reveiws and seen this one. I don't think it became real known until last year since the only place you can get one is online. Retail stores do not carry them. I took it to Ks in the 2007 and 2008 season. Great little camera.

I have moultrie, stelth and Cuddyback The only trouble I had was with the Cuddyback. Black pictures. sent back twice and still bad. The feedback on Moultrie scares me I hope I don't learn that this year.

Bushnell Trophy Cam is working good for me so far. 2 year warranty gave me a little piece of mind. I tried the homebrew cams for years but the new cameras are getting better and a little cheaper.

I have two Stealth cams and I can safely say I would not purchase another one. If I buy another, I think I am going to try the Cuddeback.
I have my best luck in actually getting pics with a really old GameVu. It was one of the first commercially available digital trail cams. It's very low tech, takes very grainy black and white pics... but at the same time, it is the most dependable to actually take a pic, takes photos at night without a flash, and is simple enough to operate that I don't need to read the directions everytime I use it.

Cuddeback. I'm on the third year with my Noflash. Single digits to 105+. No issues. The new Capture IR is supposed to have better battery life.
I think the Moultree have a really great picture, but the reliability is just not there from what I have seen personally.
Sure, there will be some that just never had a problem, but search around here, lots of folks won't go near them, anymore. Cheap looks great, for a while..
Buckeye sounds pretty dang good & maybe some of the new higher end units. Bargains usually aren't.

All sounds good here.. Funny we all have good and bad stories most on Moultrie. mine is with cuddyback I will never but another one, The two stelths I've had for two years no issues, The moultries I have this will be the second season. 2 d40's, I40 and m60 The M60 was left out last year by mistake found it this August out of memory on a 1gig card and the batteries at 40% unit still on. So that camera gets my vote.

It seems just as many people dislike the Moultries as like them. I have a D40 & a Wildview(on bought on a whim). The wildview actually made it thru deer season last year w/out a hiccup. The D40 has been out for 1.5 mo. so the jury is still out on it. I

I have 20 cuddeback cameras and have never had a problem with one of them. Have owned Stealthcams and had nothing but problems.
