I am going on a week long RV excursion through Athens, Livingston, Silsbee, Jasper then home with about 4 nights booked with State parks and the the other nights going to just wing it by myself. There are just not many places to boon dock, with public land in the wilderness to sleep, camp and drink a beer without it being a set designated pay to stay. You would think as vast as Texas is there would be a place to go off road and be alone for a night or in a secluded location with no water or electricity hook ups.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions. Lake Ratliff (National Park is pay to play as well).
Walmarts, Cracker Barrel’s etc are not what I am looking for.

I’ve been to Purtis Creek Stste Park, north of Athens. It was nice, saw some eagles. Not sure of the setup or what your needs are.

I can help you a little in AR and a whole bunch in AZ, not so much in TX. hip camp and free roam are apps my wife knows about but doesn't use. That's all I got. Red

Here's a link I use a lot when boondocking. All picnic areas are free to use for up to 24 hours unless otherwise marked. Some are much better than others though, using google maps to view before you get there helps a lot. Texas Rest and Picnic areasAnd another link you'll find useful with a lot of info for Texas and other states as well. https://www.boondockersbible.com/

Wrong part of the state. Big Bend State Park is what you're looking for.

If you are just needing a night or two, you could boondock at the entrance to my hay field. It’s tree lined for 50 yards or so, and behind a double gate. Near Thornton, and about 1/2 mile from our house. That’s workable unless we get a lot of rain, and it gets soggy. And, cold beer is only a short walk or Kubota ride to the house. Gray tank dump would be Ok, but just the gray tank.
I’ve thought about boondocking there myself, but it seems silly to drive 1/2 mile to boondock.

Might look at the satellite of 698 Bells Camp Road Trinity, TX 75862. It is west of Lake Livingston off Hwy 19. I use to put in there years ago to go duck hunting on the river. Nice and quiet most of the time and remote for sure.

I’m pretty close to just buying a clam shell or popup camper for my truck

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

You can do dispersed camping in any of the national forests with a few restrictions. There is a spot not far from lake Ratcliff that is at the end of a FS road where I've camped before, called Pond Camp. Best thing to do is get a map and do some exploring.
