Do you look at the packages and read the content before you buy and does that influence what you buy?

Normally the wife does all of the grocery shopping unless I have an urge for some steaks, then I handle that part.

My daughter works close to our house and sometimes comes over for lunch, usually we have sandwich and chips.
We were out of bread, sandwich meat, tomato's and the lettuce we had needed to go. So after breakfast yesterday with my SIL I stopped by WallyMart on the way home to pick up a few things.

While going through the meat section I saw this info on the Bar S brand of Ham eeks333

Daughter was the only one that ate lunch, she really liked the flavor of the Black Forest Ham.

What I picked up

The reason I chose Land O' Frost was not because I knew what the heck was in them, they looked more like real meat that had less water pumped inside of them.

This is the info on the back of the meats, no clue how good or bad it is compared to other brands confused2

We read every label. Our son has some food allergies so it’s just part of life now. He is allergic to beef (5 out of 5) and dairy products (3 out of 5).

Now that we’ve been looking at labels it’s insane how much sugar and artificial flavors/dyes they put into our food. Since we’ve watched it since Colt was born he doesn’t get hardly any dyes or artificial flavors and we can definitely tell if he has eaten candy or popsicles at school because it changes his whole demeanor. Food manufactures should be shot for putting this stuff in our foods.

It’s the dyes that we have to watch out for. I never believed that a very small amount of dyes could affect behavior, but my kid is a prime example of it happening. Any food, vitamin, toothpaste, medicine, or drink that contains red dye will send him on a day long terror. You can tell by his reactions and responses that something isn’t working in his brain.

Yep exact same with Colt. He gets super emotional we had a week or 2 that if he even thought he’d lose in Jiu Jitsu he’d just break down and start crying and we couldn’t figure out wth was going on with him. Come to find out he was going through the line at school even though we send his lunch everyday. He was getting slushies with all the dyes in them and it was tearing him up. Put a stop to it and then bam he was the little badass he normally is. It’s nuts, I never believed my wife when she said it but it is definitely a thing.

Terrible things are in my food, that i don’t even want to know about. I survive on truck stop food, minute rice, and canned meat and soups.

It tastes good 👍

Soy in everything, for sure. Even in the hot dogs and stuff like that.

I just look at the label for the sodium content. All the manufactures care about is shelf life and taste. They get both by pumping it full of sodium. Most prepared food like that is pumped full of sodium. I haven’t gone down the frozen food isle in years.

Technically, USDA defines that as a "ham and water" product. They have lots of similar jargon for items that are not quite what they seem.

Meat packers and processors add a LOT of water to many items. All that marinated and processed meat crap has phosphates added to make it retain water.

Of course water is cheaper than meat.

That turkey breast....water is the third ingredient.
And not all "white" meat turkey or chicken is breast meat. They can bleach thigh meat to turn it white. When the menu says "all white meat" that means nothing.
