Just curious does anyone else notice turkey not entering into feeder pens made of hog panels? Have them on my camera but they never seem to get into pen. Obviously i know they can fly into it but they always seem to hangout outside of it for just a short amount of time. Was thinking about opening up to see if they will access it more often? what's everyone else seen?

Turkeys like to get a bit of a running start before flying so if it’s too small they are not comfortable being inside it. Mine is huge so they don’t mind at all.

The first ones I built were round with 7 16 foot cattle panels and turkey had no problem with them. Could be they were in a pasture with cattle panel fences all the way around that 70 acres. They would most often fly in or get on top of the fence then down.

They get in mine which is good size and round. Given the choice they will walk around looking for an easy entry but eventually some will fly in.

I've got a pretty small hog panel pen around a feeder we just watch from the house, and turkeys jump in it all the time.

Yep, we experience the same thing. Maybe 20% of the birds will actually get inside. What is funnier is when one is inside and you pull up it's like they can't figure out how to get out. I guess run is their first instinct before flying and they end up running circles inside the pen chicken

Turkeys have never had a problem with our pens, but ours are open around the bottom and they walk under. Of course that style pen wouldn't work if you are trying to keep hogs out.

20 to 30 Turkeys every morning for 2 weeks all day and they hang out and were roosting on my property. Been feeding them scattering corn on road and in areas of the pasture. All was good until I rode down the road on the electric golf cart and they seeing it they flew off and have not seen them now for 4 days. Could actually get within 50 feet of them when feeding but boy did the golf cart mess things up. I am wondering and hoping that they will be back soon. Any comments would be appreciated.
