I figure anything starting with a 1 or 2 is small bore, starting with a 3 it's mid-bore, and large bores start with a 4 or a 5. Metric calibers excluded, of course.

I figured small bore generally pertains to rimfires, full bore is pretty much a centerfire rifle .22 and up, medium bores are above .308 and when we talk big bore it generally starts with mid bores with some serious power behind them .375 and up. The lines are blurry.

.338 Win Mag here. The only thing I’ve shot with it so far was a Nilgai bull. Did a decent job with a monometal bullet, but will use lead core bonded bullet next time.

I've got a CZ 550FS in 9.3x62 and am building a 35 Whelen on a Sako action as we speak.

I took my mediums to the range today with the magnetospeed.
338 Federal - 2610 fps 200 Hot Cors out of 22” barrel 350 REM Mag- 2875 fps 200 TTSX out of 22” barrel 9.3x62- 2560 fps 250 Accubonds out of 20.5” barrel
The 350 REM Mag definitely needs a softer recoil pad.

I have always been a fan of the 35 Rem; owned them in bolt, lever, and pump guns. I am a reloader, I haven't bought boxed ammo since the mid seventies. I only have one left, that a Remington 600 configured as a scout rifle. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/Hunting/wma/chap/CWMA_deer_01.jpg) I had a Marlin 336ER in 356 Win, it was okay, but someone wanted it a lot more than I did. I really like the idea of 35 caliber leverguns though, and had a Win '94 that wasn't being used much so I had it recambered to 35-30. I really like this rifle. I have the two 94 Win Timber Scouts; 30-30 Win and 44 Mag, so I copied those 1990 rifles in this build. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/Hunting/2018/buck_110418.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/Firearms/M94/images/M94_3530_01.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/Firearms/M94/images/3530_cartridge.jpg) I've own three Marlin 375's. I've killed a lot of South Texas whitetails with it and decided to carry it on a West Texas mule deer hunt that worked out well. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/Hunting/2009/mule_deer.gif) I had a Rossi Rio Grande, a Marlin 336 clone, rechambered from 30-30 Win to 38-55 Win. It killed a lot of critters.

Nice Mulie, RD. Where'd you get that? Looks like the area around Van Horn or maybe up north of there toward the Guadalupes.

A.S. Cage between Marathon and Alpine. The place is on both sides of 90, this was south side.

There's a peak along that stretch of 90 with a repeater on top (at least there was in the 80s!) called Bullfrog Mountain. I took a helicopter ride to the top of that peak once to work on that repeater. That whole region is glorious!

I'm a big fan of over .30cal, I've got the following:
.338 Fed 350 Legend .358 Win (one of my favorites) 9.3x62 (I've taken a LOT of African game with this caliber) .375 H&H (won't do anything the 9.3x62 won't with less recoil) .450/400 3" (worked well on buff and elephant) .458 WM (one elephant and buff is all I've ever shot with this rifle, more recoil than I care for!!!)

Here’s my Marlin 336 and my Remington model 81 and model 8 all in 35 REM caliber. The model 8 was the first commercially successful auto loading rifle. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/03/full-29085-415696-img_3165.jpeg)
