I have a friend from El Campo whose ancestors were the original settlers of Danevang, he has some family connections to Speaks and was going to dig a little deeper. He pointed me to Provident City which was hoped to be a big town but the railroad never came. He said it's likely that explains the lack of towns for the whole area, no towns because no railroad, no railroad because no towns. There are a decent amount of homes and ranches though which is what's interesting to me. On the other side of 77 there are plenty of small towns scattered around. Hopefully it stays undeveloped like that for a long time, sad seeing the urban sprawl eat up the real Texas.
