Looks like a lot of atrophy there. He'll probably make it, but if that leg is permanently damaged, his right side rack is gonna grow back funky.

Deer are tough creatures. He should make it fine.

Had one limping like that in early December. No camera pics in the last 5-6 weeks, despite all his 'buddies' continuing to frequent the feeders. RIP.

Hoping he makes it just to watch what happens. There are a couple of coyotes around, and a bobcat so I will keep watching for him, now zero pictures since 1/7/24.

Over the years I’ve seen several whitetails with bad legs due to old injuries. All appeared healthy and able to function normally. One was three legged doe with twin fawns. I saw her several times during archery and rifle deer season. She was missing her left leg from the knee down. The wound was completely healed over and during the rut she had no problem evading bucks that would harass her.
A second was a buck that my son shot during archery season years ago. The buck also had damage to his left front leg. The swelling in his knee and ankle joints were obvious. His hoof on the injured leg was long and curled. His right antler was very deformed, growing straight up and had 4 points. The left antler was wide and curled like a normal 8 pt. My son watched him chasing a hot doe around in a cut corn field before he walked by his stand. He was the 5th buck that walked by his stand that afternoon and was clearly the dominant one.
