I'm going to be working up a load for an AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor and want to use 120 to 130 gr bullets for a combo of target and hunting. I really like Hornady ELDM but am wondering if the plastic tips get deformed in the violent chambering. Has anyone had troubles or positive results with the plastic tipped bullets in an AR? Is the Scenar a better choice for the AR?

AR 15 and Vmax out to 400 yards were excellent. If they deformed I surely could not tell. M1A, Hornady SST out to 200 yards shot well. I switched to 155 gr Sierra Tipped Match King and I recall my load was close to something JG reported that he worked up for his rifle. I had some excellent groups from that bullet.

Maybe JG can chime in on this load, I don't have my notes handy, but I recall it was IMR 8208 with the 155 TMK.

I'm using 120-grain Ballistic Tips in my .260s. I don't know what every bullet looks like after chambering, but I've emptied the chamber plenty of times and never seen a deformed or damaged tip. They're very accurate, BTW.

This one was cycled last night. 64 gr TMK and yes a .223 kills pigs just fine, contrary to what some on here think.

Yes they will.

You and your equipment needs to be precise shooting. Hit the hog in the ear hole or brain stem.

I have shot tipped bullets in every semiautomatic rifle that I have ever owned with no issues. I don't even recall finding bits of the tips in the guns action and assume they would be everywhere if they were getting chewed up.

If the tips are getting damaged, it's a magazine feeding issue.

I like metal mags, since they are easier to tune.

Thanks all. I've had a 60 gr v-max deform once, hence my concern, but sounds very isolated.

And Gary, why don't you engineer yourself to Sr's 500 yd shoots more often. I guess I miss you out shooting me.

Why don't you engineer yourself back to my range more often?

I miss hearing the steel getting hit from my shop.

I will as soon as my bullets arrive and I get them loaded. Got a few new ARs that I need to try out as well.

As long as you torque the tips down with a good lube, they’ll be fine. rofl

I see lots of people using these tipped match kings. Anyone have experience with the tipped game kings?

I ordered tipped gamekings and will advise in a week or so how they perform.

I've loaded them in several rifles in several cartridges. They shoot tight like Sierras do. Everyone has been very happy with terminal performance on game. One customer has taken 20 animals with his .308 Win shooting 165 TGKs, including one elk.

I used the 77 gr TMK and they thump hard. Wound channel is outstanding on them. Eveverything has been under 252 yards though
