Article from NY Post.

Citing that 1/3 of Gen Z prefer self checkout. Makes it easier to steal.
This article has gotten much criticism, based on them using an Asian female at the kiosk. Probably not a high demographic. Several Asian groups are outraged.

Getting pretty aggravated at self-checkout myself. Not that it should go away, but it shouldn't be the only option. Some stores that sell stuff like alcohol, which still requires an ID check and a manual override by staff, have almost entirely moved to self-checkout.

I only like to use it if I have a few items, other than that I let the pro's handle my stuff.

Self checkout can be frustrating. I remember 20 years ago and having to wait in line to buy everything. I will take self checkout.

I don't mind self checkout, but quit giving me the business trying to leave because everyone steals. I don't.

I read recently that Walmart is discontinuing self check in some locations.

gee. I wonder why?

First, they must be trained to understand that stealing is wrong. There's the rub.

I don't know why this cracked me up so bad, but you got me at "the pros".

If Gen Z likes self check out, there needs to be a chain of Gen Z stores.

I love self checkout, I've become a pro at it and much faster than the cashiers. Saves me from having to talk to or be around people. Win/Win.

If you're talking about the receipt checkers, I ignore them or simply tell them I'm not interested or even suggest they watch footage of me on the store cameras. I don't even break stride.

I love self-checkout as I usually have less than 10 items anyways. At WM. I just wave my receipt as I'm going out, never been stopped.

Same.

Kroger hires special needs people that in the past handled my food and placed it in bags. One was a young girl, like 19-20 with terrible hygiene. She had what is known as "nappy" hair that had white particles of something, living or not, I'm not sure. She engaged me in awkward conversation that I didn't mind. While she was looking me dead in the eyes and talking, she stuck her arm elbow deep down the back of her pants and scratched, or maybe adjusted something, then continued touching things that I would be bringing home.
With my best poker face I thanked her and grabbed up the bags. On the way out I told a manager. I didn't use the G rated words in describing the incident. The look on his face was priceless.

Not only can I run the self check out faster and better than an employee, I wait until I leave the store to scratch my balls.

If getting a few items I will use self-checkout. If getting a cart full then the cashier can do it since there's no discount incentive.

Will use self check out if 1 or 2 items that don't need weight punched in or in a hurry. If doing weekly shopping and have a basket full I pass. Had cart full and was directed to self check out till I asked where employee break room was located. Told them I'm going to take a break then check out, if I'm doing check out I am using all company resources! The lady laughed and said carry on.

I try to not be rude to the people checking the receipt if there is one. These are usually older men or women just try to make a living and doing what they are told. Try doing that job for a day and you might feel differently about it. Now.......if they are rude and act like the receipt police.......All gloves are off, but I haven`t come across that person yet. Live and let live. Life is too short to sweat the small things.

That’s a dumb article to say Gen Z is the only one stealing. Can’t possibly see how it would be limited to one age bracket.

When the local Brookshires got self checkout I was standing in a regular line when one of the checkout girls told me I could use it because it was open. I asked her if she knew why it was installed and she said no. I told her it’s there to replace her. She and about 4-5 other folks lost their jobs a couple of weeks later.

Gen Z is the only generation that brags about it.

Gen Z is a lost generation. Wants wealth and power with minimal effort.

Won’t pan out well for them, they will be the easiest to control

Lotto folks are the worse to be behind in a line at a gas station.
