My old gas grill is on its last leg. I have a stick burner and pellet grill so the only thing I use it for these days is searing steaks. So I'm thinking about replacing it when the time comes with a griddle so I can do more stuff with it. I don't need anything all that fancy, I just want it to get really hot to sear a couple ribeyes. Portable might be nice if they make ones that get hot enough.

Any recommendations or opinions on ones I should avoid? TIA

We have one of these. Can also use it with the bigger propane bottle. As full-time RVers we carry it around. It's a nice addition to our Weber Q1000 portable grill.

A bigger one would be better but that's not portable for us.

The real critical part is keeping the cooking surface treated properly. Also make sure you have a cover to protect it from the elements.

We have the same one as TurkeyHunter and it's been great. We also have the hose adapter to hook to our big bottle and/or our camper.

me too. set up on the patio but is very portable. use it with the big bottle at home. i would assume the smaller table top blackstones would work well also. i wouldnt buy stainless.

I got a small blackstone for my birthday I can't stand it, if it wasn't a gift I'd give it to ya. I think the biggest pain is having to clean it.

I got a spot in my yard I spray it off with a water hose. Pretty easy to clean like that. But it is more work than just cooking on the grill.

I have a blackstone at the ranch, and a razor at home. The blackstone heats more evenly, but the grease catch is inconvenient and not thought out well. Overall, I like the Razor better. Both get plenty hot to sear anything that needs searing. Burgers, salmon, stir fry, grilled cheese, breakfast, blackened chicken, cheese steak sandwiches... I've evenused mine to deep fry fish and French fries... the possibilities are endless. I would advise getting the big one.

Surprised to hear y’all don’t like your black stone. I put water in a squirt bottle and spray it down while it’s hot scrape it and heat it back up just like my cast iron skillets. I love it. I don’t use it as much as I thought I would. I used to cook all the time but I’ve been burned out.

I’ve not seen any improvement from just using a cast iron skillet other than you can cook more food on them.

That's the key. It's a really big a$$ skillet. If I were cooking for 2, I'd have no use for one. But, cooking for a minimum of 6 (me, wife, kids, and gammaw), a big a$$ skillet sure is handy. Add a few guests, a d It's a necessity.

Yes more food, more room to not crowd your food to get the best caramelization, I like to swirl my meat around spread that juice around, or easily drain it off (better control of juice). Putting the buns down in the juice, oh man you liven the dream…

Having a way to let the grease run off has it's place

Love my black stone!

Makes the best burgers, fried rice, breakfast

How are they hard to clean? Literally the easiest thing to clean ever, just pour water on it, scrape, wipe down and oil. Easy peasy

Way easier than dishes..

We don’t fry a lot of foods but when we do I use it for chicken fry and stuff like that because I hate frying food in the house.

I also made a modification to mine, I changed out the propane regulator to one with an adjustable valve like you see on fish fryers. Let’s me turn the heat up a bit more.

I bought my 2 griddles for camping, but I got the idea to put it on my gas grill, and it gets more use there. The big one I elevate, so I can make a little foil pan to catch the grease to throw it away. The handle on mine with gloves, makes it easy to remove and put in section of my yard where spray it off with high pressure hose, then back on the gas grill, spray with oil with heat on to reason, and it is ready for the next cook. I have a travel case for it too.

Got my big one on Amazon, not sure if this is the exact size, but this is the brand and type I bought..

Larry, I don’t know where you’re located but I’m thinking about selling my blackstone 4 burner. I bought it last year on mother’s day and cooked hibachi on it 3 times and breakfast on it once. If you’re interested give me a shout.
