Can anyone confirm the reason we eat Black Eye Peas in the south is due to the War of Northern Aggression and they yankees burning and destroying everything in their path and leaving Black Eye Peas for the farm animals to eat

Black-eyed, pink-eyed purple hull, crowder, etc. are all part of a group of legumes commonly referred to as cow peas.

All are hard to beat when they are seasoned up, cooked low and slow, with some sausage, ham, or tasso throw in for good measure.

Today’s supper is smothered cabbage, black-eyes, pork tenderloin, mac n cheese, and cornbread.

Lunch will be boudin and boudin balls during the LSU game.

Happy New Year!!

I like chow chow on my black eyed peas.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

Yes on the chow chow. I also like jalapeños and some juice on black-eyes. I bet some fresh pico would be good too.

During Shermans march to the sea his troop stole any and everything eatable and burned the rest, except for the cow peas (black eye peas). He felt they were for cattle and sense there were no cattle left why bother. So on New Years day 1865 all the Georgia people had to eat were the black eye peas, they felt that they were lucky to have that so a tradition was born.

Have a pot of black eyed peas going with all the Thanksgiving leftovers I vacuum sealed and froze. No deserts or yeast rolls this time around. Getting back on the keto program tomorrow.
