It looks like an older Smith & Wesson Military and Police in .38 Special. Maybe a 6 inch barrel.

You should be able to look up the manufacture date based on the serial number.

It looks just like a Regulation Police, but as far as I can ascertain those were only chambered in .38 S&W, not the .38 Special. Maybe you have something that's rare and unique...I think you may have to get in tough with S&W themselves to find out just exactly what you've got there.

Need any other roll stamps and serial to be certain. Looks like the 1st model M&P to me.

Hopefully you can read this from my book.

It has a yoke lock on the barrel.

I think it is one of the1905 models since it has 5 screws ( 4 on the right side and 1 on the front grip strap).

The serial number will tell you for sure.

Not as common as one chambered in .38 S&W, this one is a .38 Special and apparently the CTG stands for "cartridge" which is extraneous in my mind. Not enough pics for me to tell much about it other than I'd guess it's fairly early (these were made until the 1940's) but this was made after 1921. It's newer than a 1st model though. Serial number would tell all ... and it's on the butt and cylinder. Other numbers are just assembly numbers.

Pass the gravy.

For some reason it won't let me upload the picture here. This is the serial number 469563. Thanks for all of your help guys!

That would be a 1905 4th change made about mid 1920’s.
