Okay reloaders, I have 2 different LRPs, CCI and Fed 210. Which is the hottest or is there any difference? I have a project to load up some 308's and I have never loaded the Fed 210s. Thanks Daniel

I've never done the scientific research to see if one differs from the other.
I can say that I have used them interchangeably, with great results out of both primers.
I view them as equals. Both very good quality primers.

I can't say I've seen anything different from what JG says about the two compared, but that's limited to those two particular primers. Between CCI 34s and Federal 210s I have seen some notable differences that seem to be more pronounced with certain powders or powder types. I don't have a lot of data to compare, but it looks like H4350 wasn't very sensitive to the difference, but Leverevolution indicated differently. I don't think it had anything to do with temp sensitivity because both sets of data were collected on days with almost exactly the same temperature. My data is pretty limited because I only use the CCI34s in my hog-killin' .260 ARs.

Primer "brisance" does not seem to be standardized enough to list similarly to a powder burning rate table. Some want to claim values should be defined by the temperature produced. Others want to claim it should be defined by the duration of the burn. Supposedly WLR primers have some aluminum in the mix for a much hotter more distributed burn. This link shows the detonation in a dark room. For your comparison, the CCI-BR2 is the same as a CCI-200 except for being made with more QC so benchrest shooters will pay more. Pictures would indicate that the federal is the "hotter" between the 2. I was surprised by the blast from a Rem 9-1/2! https://www.6mmbr.com/primerpix.html

You just gotta try 'em...and sometimes you might see an improvement. Or maybe not! And you might see indicators of higher pressures or lower pressures (I mean velocity changes) when you make a change. Caution is in order when messing around with primer changes.

Yea those Remington 9 1/2 magnums were used by Weatherby back in the day for a reason. I don’t see much difference between CCI200 and Fed210 Changing to magnums in either brand makes a noticeable difference on the chronograph.

I don't think you will see much difference in pressure, but the Fed primer is softer and not recommended for use in semi-auto rifles.
Where I see a big difference in components is with cases, I have .308 cases that achieve the same MV (and probably pressure) with powder charges of 2gr difference due to internal capacity. For this reason I'm pretty much standardizing on Starline cases for all new purchases.

It is my preferred brass. I use a lot of Starline brass for other cartridges, but not so much for 300 HAM'R.

Internet says the Fed 210s are hotter. Not sure if they really are.
Pass the gravy.

My experience matched much of what's above. Mostly that "hotter or colder" is very relative to the powder, the load and the case. There is no rule that one primer is always better for a certain cartridge. What may be perfect for a 308 with stick powder may not be for a 308 with ball powder. Even then, changes to the internal ballistics may require a different powder or primer. Great heat and cold also change what is ideal. All this means to only approach max pressures reluctantly and carefully. You do not need to ask how I know this.

I've used primers of the same type in different brands interchangeably and never noticed a difference - and I'm talking virtually every brand.

Large Rifle are starting to show up which is a good sign Even magnums which I haven’t seen in a few years. Didn’t need SR really but they won’t get cheaper I am afraid so grabbed another 5K ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/12/full-31762-409518-img_0639.jpeg)

Hey, i load both of those primers, really cant tell a difference. I too shoot 308, plus some 300blk, i see no difference in my results. Then im not shooting 400 to 500 yd matches for super accuracy. Mine are short range hunt rounds, to 200yds on deer, pigs.
Good luck with your tests.
be safe....
