So I'm thinking of building some nice deer stands (8' x 6' box blinds) with my class this spring. Just the box, not the base.
Stud framed, treated wood where needed, R panel roof and siding, metal trim, Tyvek beneath the r panel, metal door. No windows, just holes. Basically, a lifetime deer stand.
Tilt up windows add $40 per window.
So my question is, what would you pay for one?
Just the cost of materials is $2,200.00. We would sell them for just the cost of materials plus a $100 consumables fee.
Any thoughts? I know it sounds like a lot for a deer stand, but all materials are up right now.

Just my 2cents but I wouldnt pay anything for one that big. Some like em big but it’s too difficult for one man to do any serious hunting out of. Too much movement to see and shoot in all directions.

I agree and we as seeing more and more big blinds. I think a 4x6 is perfect for 1 or 2 people. We just got quoted around $2600 for a 4x6 fiberglass blind with sliding windows.

Think outside the boxblind for this build.
As small as possible, 54" sq. is perfect for one man, my wife can join be in my blind that size as well. 4' x 5' works fine for two. I always build stands with independent walls and a roof that is a cap that fits over the assembled walls. I've put these on top of towers myself plenty of times. One wall at a time, just brace the first wall to the floor that is attached to the tower. I buy windows from Deerview, hinge up so that when open they are out of the way, if they happen to blow open they will still hang shut and you have a bottom ledge to place a 4" wide shooting rest screwed under the window frame. Do this all the way around for a front and rear rest while shooting. It's easy to build one wall at a time, making the side walls narrow to fit inside the front and back walls. IMO, stands need to be portable yet rigid when assembled, don't require three buddies and a tractor to put up and are foremost a shooting platform, not a backyard building/playhouse.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

When I built my box blind I cut 2x4's in half (2×2). Lighter weight so one person could erect. 1/2" plywood walls, each wall independently built. No window on side at door. Used lexon for Windows. Roof was made to slide inside wall frame with 2" overhang all around used roll roofing with metal edge. Size was either 4x4 or 4x5 with inside height 6ft6in. I could erect on the 6 ft. or the 10 ft high base by myself.

For a 1 man deer blind that would be built quality and could be stood up with the help of two additional men, I would say that the cost would be around $425 in materials. I'm talking about a 4 x 4 x 6 foot high deer blind. Make the sides out of OC panel treated wood smart siding, with prime wood studs. A plywood floor put on top of 2 x 6 treated studs and sheets of tin screwed onto a plywood roof. This deer blind doesn't have lots of room BUT its easy to transport and put up onto 8 foot treated 4x4 posts. Paint it with good quality paint and it will last you 25 + years like the one I have now.

Just my $0.02, but I would never buy a blind that does not have windows.

I built one about 6 years ago (for my 2nd hunting location), 4x6x7 on 10 foot legs. But floods took it down about 3 weeks after we got it set up when they opened flood gates on Richland Chambers. Took about 3 weekends to build between other honey-do jobs. I think my total cost was around $600 back then and I have recently priced materials to build again and they have almost doubled.
windows would be nice but I am extremely cold weather natured and find just having hard window covering that open when stand is in use works for me. I used to have a stand with glass/plexiglass windows that hinged up when needed that worked very well.

If you make it too big, too heavy, and without windows I think you will have a hard time selling them unless you have a buyer for each one in advance. A possible selling point for a blind costing that kind of money perhaps could be customizing your base design to the buyers specifications. And cost of additional materials adjusted for them in advance per their custom build.

I wouldn't pay more than the price of materials. I'm willing and able to build my own.

I wouldn’t put that much into it. I built a nice 4X6X7 box blind with Deerview windows, concreted in the ground with 4 extra 4X4’s, a brace set from academy, and 10’ off the ground with a staircase for $1200 last year. Lumber prices are nuts! I’m 49 and this will last a lifetime for me. The stand we replaced was 40 years old and built as cheaply as possible. It would still be there if it weren’t for the tornado.

I could live with hinged windows, but the overall size is too much 6 x 8. i have 4 x 8 that I really enjoy. Has sliding windows.

^^Dang, those are nice. And that Skytrak's as handy as a pocket on a shirt. 'Love tower blinds but don't have the help or equipment to put one up (safely). I may splurge someday and have one delivered and set, but I absolutely don't "need" one and I hate spending $.

Hop, those are way too big for me but I do like that skytrak. Never heard of marine carpet. Is that basically what goes in boats? Like that thin indoor outdoor stuff?

Hop those largecondo Ranch King blnds are sweet and let's just say ain't cheap, Wish I had a skytrack to set blinds. I do have 4 Ranch King Lil' Bucks with same windows and indoor marine carpet head to toe. They are only 4x5 but air, water and bug tight. Bought the first one years ago and they have now nearly tripled in price. Picked up 3 more from a guy that lost lease for a really to good to be true average price (2 in 4 fioot risers and 1 with 8 ft tower)

skytrak was a rental, they delivered and set all 3 in one day.
no way I was going to try with the tractor, too high and wobbly.
yes on the carpet, it is a couple of grades above the home depot stuff.
the inside is pretty sweet, I hunt pigs out of them off and on, nice to be able to have room. I have even slept in one but not on purpose. lol
don't know where the owners got them.

Hey you can get these in a smaller size for close to the cost of building one of them as well.
